Located inside the Westley Hotel in the heart of Downtown Calgary, Fonda Fora is an exciting new contemporary Mexican restaurant brought to you by the folks at Thank You Hospitality.

Food and Beverage Magazine 30 under 30 winner, Chef Emilio Montenegro has crafted a menu based on his upbringing in Northern Mexico and his journey in kitchens across the world. Much of our concept is based around the heirloom corn of Mexico. We import four types of corn from a collective of heirloom farms in Mexico in order to provide the best product we can. We process this corn from raw and turn it into masa for dishes all across our menu, like our Sope, Tamal, and of course, Tortillas. There is a saying in Mexico that we live by at Fonda Fora: "Sin maiz no hay pais," meaning without corn, there is no country. Maiz is the lifeblood of Mexican cuisine, and we are excited to present it to you as it should be.

The food was excellent. Great recommendations by the server. Fresh and flavourful dishes. We had three different servers initially and it took a long time to get drinks and order. There seemed to be confusion about who was assigned to our table, but it was worked out and everyone we dealt with was pleasant. It was rather loud in the restaurant. I would recommend requesting seating by a wall for business lunches or when you want to be able to talk comfortably with others at your table. Overall I would definitely recommend Fonda Fora.

This used to be my favorite restaurant in town. They must have had some menu changes and my favorite items were no longer on there. We waited quite some time to see our server when we arrived. Luckily the hostess placed an order for drinks and appetizers for us. We had been there 20 minutes before our server came to us. We ordered the mocalete mushrooms as our main course and were told they came with corn tortillas. The waitress put in the wrong order for us so it was a significant wait between appetizer and main course. When the meal came out with chips they asked if we wanted tortillas (like we were told it came with) and of course we said yes as we had chips as appetizer. We were charged extra for the tortillas. The mushroom mocalete was mediocre at best. Definitely not worth the $50. We were there 2 hours for a table of 2-lots of waiting and being left alone with out water refills despite spicy salsa tasting. Sadly, a favorite spot will likely not be revisited- at least for a while.

The overall experience was not good at all. All food in general was either underseasoned or overcooked. Appies were okay, then waited at least 45 min for our first main to come, which was the risotto and halibut. Risotto was raw. It was taken off our table but then no one came back to us for at least 10 min. In which they said if would be another 10 min for a fresh dish to come out. At this point we were so full we didn’t even want our 2nd main. Wont be returning

Beautiful place with a great atmosphere. Food was 50/50 , pulled pork would benefit from a little extra flavour, but a lot of places in YYC keep it simple when it comes to meat. Fuzzy peach margarita was disappointing, I expected a burst of peach flavor from the peach puree, but it was barely noticeable, and the pink color was even more confusing, which led me to double-check if I received the right drink. Portions are huge. Cheesecake was fresh and flavorful, Flan was great but to our surprise more cheesecake texture/flavor. Costillitas de Maíz 10 / 10 Tinga Tostada 8.5/10 Tlayuda con Mole Poblano 2/10 My fault for not doing more research on Mole Poblano - it tasted more like chocolate than anything else and the amount of mushrooms was overwhelming, Cochinita Pibil 5/10 Will come back for horchata and appetizers.

Really liked this place. Service was excellent. Not overly priced and really good food. Great vegetarian options and lots of meat. Will definitely be back.

Food was good, drinks were excellent. Menu felt a bit unclear and servers were super nice but not very attentive, it wasn’t busy to justify the amount of time it took to take orders. Our dinner could have been an hour shorter had they been more on it.
