Welcome to Floris at VMFA!

~ We've expanded our menu to offer a la carte offerings each day from 2:30 - 4:00pm, no reservations needed~

Our high tea menu and tea service is offered daily from 11:30 am - 2:30pm priced at $45 per guest, not inclusive of tax and service. We kindly require each guest's participation.

Floris invites you to immerse yourself in a culturally enriching tearoom experience at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Nestled in the beautiful surroundings of the Robins Sculpture Garden, Floris is a community gathering space located in VMFA’s Pauley Center.

Take a mid-day escape and indulge in delightful pleasures for the palate, including expertly crafted blends from guest tea makers. Chef Chainey Kuykendall’s use of fresh ingredients from local vendors and importers further enhances Floris’s celebration of cultures and community.

Floris is a lovely facility. We had a table in a beautiful setting. But honestly the food is not good, several items seemed stale. On top of that the service was really splotchy. Our waitress didn't check on us, and even forgot our second tea order for so long that we decided we no longer wanted it. This was my second time at Floris. The food was also not good. The first time though the service was better. I don't know if I can justify returning.

I had enjoyed afternoon tea here in February and had looked forward to a return visit. The food was good, but not as creative as a previous visit. My first visit, the service was exemplary, but this visit, the service was lacking. After waiting for some time for our server to return to replenish our hot tea, we finally had to ask the hostess/manager for assistance. After raising the issue, the service improved. On a more positive note, we still enjoyed our time here, having a leisurely tea in this beautiful tearoom.

My husband and I loved our first tea at Floris with the debut menu but the new fall menu left us still hungry but having spent $54 each (including tip). There was one partial sandwich that was okay, but the other savories were 1-2 bites at most. The tiny polenta rectangle with tinier mushroom bits on top was buttery and tasty, the German potato salad tiny tart was good but again tiny, and the pastry “cigar” with filling was the length of my pinky. A salmon roll up with a shred of beet on top comes, too, that is around an inch but it didn’t do it for any of us and again, was not very filling. For sweets, the small poppyseed cheesecake sprayed with/pink grapefruit dust on a cookie base the size of a silver dollar was excellent, but the sacher torte was “too dry” and uninteresting. A standout was an apple tart with sour cream whipped frosting, but the waitress only brought 2 for 3 of us so we divided them up. My gluten-free daughter was brought an outstanding mini pavlova with blueberry filling and a bit of cream on top, so that was great. Kudos also for her bourbon caramel (although I tried tidbits, and there was no bourbon taste but it was still very good) and for the gf and regular mini scones (but no clotted cream) with strawberry jam and whipped butter. Overall, some huts but also some real disappointments and again, we all left still hungry, and we are not big people! I hope its holiday menu has larger servings such as more sandwiches or something. Our server was kind but we had trouble getting our tea and then getting the pots refilled, and I think we were shorted one narrow slice of apple tart. I think they were short on staff, frankly. I’d give it all a 3 out of 5.

The Chef appreciates your feedback regarding our new fall menu, as we always strive to provide a sublime food and tea experience. Our service staff has been reminded to visit tables more frequently throughout the meal and make sure their presence is not lacking in describing the menu offerings. We had an amazing afternoon tea experience at Floris. Our server Adam was excellent and the teas and Japanese inspired breads and pastries were outstanding!

Lovely birthday lunch with friends. Excellent service with a wonderful prix fixe menu, which changes seasonally and in conjunction with the museum special exhibits. I would definitely recommend dining here for special occasions. A tad on the expensive side for an every day lunch.

Our first time there. Heard about it from a friend. Was more than pleasantly surprised. Everything was really great. I loved the menu, it was very unique and delicious. The tea selection was excellent and we enjoyed tasting four different teas. We will definitely be back.

What a sweet way to farewell my daughter going abroad to study. We had a fabulous time with great service, choices of teas and perfect romantic setting
