Under the culinary direction of Chef Somoza, Flora’s menu captures the spirit of Mediterranean seaside towns from Saint Tropez to Capri to Marbella, spotlighting the bountiful seafood and vibrant produce that are hallmarks of coastal cuisine. With a passion for fresh ingredients rooted in his childhood in the Spanish countryside, picking wild blackberries and foraging mushrooms and wild asparagus, Chef Somoza is drawn to local, farm-to-table cooking.

The Flora menu is made up of regional ingredients such as sweet corn, seasonal vegetables and fruits, local seafood and small farm sourced meats, and is anchored by a crudo bar and fish main courses including Dover Sole, Bank Scallops, pan seared halibut. A skilled pastry chef and boulanger, Somoza is also putting an emphasis on quality breads and an impressive offering of house-made pastries and ice cream, and the most delicious creme brulee.

It was our 26 wedding anniversary on 9/5/24 and I put that in the notes when I made my reservation and thought that Stacey our waitress could have done something on the table or a glass of champagne to acknowledge it was our celebration It would have been sweet to have something done. It was like she didn’t even know

Cozy and comfortable environment with exceptional sunset views. Our waiter was engaging and very professional. The menu selection offers dishes for vegetarians, which I fully enjoyed. Looking forward to going back the next time we are in town.

We ordered Dover sole and filet of beef (ordered medium rare). The dover sole at $90 was a disappointment. My wife has it frequently at other restaurants and this did not measure up. A very large piece but unfortunately the taste was disappointing. My steak was ok but underwhelming. It was very dense unlike filet mignon that I am accustomed to and difficult to chew. And what is the fascination in restaurants today with broccoli rabe? I would have enjoyed almost any other vegetable more. On the plus side my salad was wonderful as were the deserts we enjoyed.

This place is a GEM!. The rooftop restaurant gives you amazing views of the harbor. The food was spectacular and our server DREW was wonderful. There isn't one thing I would change. I dod have one suggestion - Signage could be better. We walked to the restaurant and had a little trouble find it with GPS. Asked several local folks and nobody knew where the restaurant was. It is in Gardiner House Hotel. Not sure why there would be any negative reviews of this restaurant. It was really, really good.

We were seated in between three other tables with barely any room to move. I’ve never been so close to another table, I’m skinny and I can barely get into it . We were practically part of their conversations. The food was great and we liked our waiter, but there were other weird aspects of the experience. Feels like they are trying to figure out who they are

The interior and views were absolutely stunning. My spouse enjoyed his food more than I did. The peaches in my special salad were raw. And the sauce on my special salmon was much too sweet and quite boring. We’ll give it another chance because of the ambiance.

Great location - unique decor - excellent service - our seafood meals were very good . Our second visit in 2 weeks - a new hidden Newport gem.

As a local I was really looking forward to our visit here as I headed so many good things. Apparently we must have hit a really off night. Our server was just kind of there, no greeting, no personality, no interaction. We mentioned a gluten allergy, all she said was OK.. No suggestions. Anyway, we ordered apps, and two of them were loaded with corn and tomatoes..we were not told the ceviche special had those fillers and unfortunately due to sensitivity to those ingredients the ceviche could not be eaten... The waitress didn't even take notice. The main dishes weren't much better, my companions both got the Paella, I had the shrimp fusilli... While the shrimp was slightly overcooked, the fusilli and sauce were well done.. Can't say the same for the paella... Both had the seafood overcooked and chewy, one had the rice overcooked, the other undercooked. Again, left most of it uneaten.. Needless to say, we passed on dessert... Now the fun part.. Got the bill, paid it, and got a notice on my phone saying I had just spent $390...mind you, the bill was $227!!!! So, not only did we leave hungry but I was out $400...waitress said she made a mistake and to rest assured that it was reversed and I was only charged the $227 and it should correct overnight... Well, the $390 is still pending as I write this the next day. We may try another day, with another server, but it will be awhile.
