First Flight Island Restaurant and Brewery is located in the home of Pan Americans office, where the first American international flight ticket Key West- Havana, Cuba was bought on October 28th 1927. The restaurant features a beautiful garden dining area nestled under the canopies of 2 Strangler Figs, an inside dining room with Pan American memorabilia and an indoor- outdoor crash bar made from an airplane wing.This is also the birthplace of the Southernmost Brewery in the States where 3 flagship and seasonal beers are made by Brewmaster Andrew Koennecke. The restaurant menu focuses on locally sourced seafood, house brew braised dishes and fresh seasonal ingredients. The menu changes throughout the year by Executive Chef Ben Schneller who supplements tradition with an island twist.

Our dinner at First Flight was great. Our party of 6 sat outside in their garden area. It was fairly quiet despite being next to the street. We enjoyed several beers/cocktails, appetizers and dinner. The apps we ordered were slightly smaller than we expected for sharing (wings, baked brie, scallops). All of the dinner meals were sizable and "fancier" than we expected for a brewery. We would definitely come again!

Very disappointing. We were looking forward to this but service was lacking. I had to go to the bar for plates and ice! Food was below average. Waitress did acknowledge our anniversary at the end so that was nice but we wont be back.

We were interested in ordering the special but found the price too high so we stuck to regular menu items. Our waiter seemed very inexperienced and had to check with the kitchen twice when we had questions. Chairs are a bit uncomfortable and were dusty. I was wearing white pants and did not feel comfortable sitting down until I wiped the chair off.

Unfortunately when we arrived for our 2:30 reservation, we were told the restaurant did not open until 4:00 pm. Don’t understand how I was able to make the reservation in the first place.

Food was well prepared. We had the panko crusted brie, the filet & Ceasar salad with grilled shrimp. It would've been nice if they had a sweet wine, like Moscato, on the menu. Restaurant wine snobbery has been a consistent problem for us. Service was a little shakey. We had to ask for plates to share the brie, but it was relaxed island dining. The atmosphere was very nice with the large patio & trees. The fans kept the air moving, and I suspect the flies away. We would definitely return here.

Although the food and ambience was very good, the host staff should wipe the outdoor chairs & table off before seating guests. Our chairs were filthy to set in so my husband started wiping them out … hands quite dirty before our server came to our rescue. Overall… a great atmosphere & dinner!!

The menu was varied and the food was delicious, just unusual enough to be exciting. The chef had his own twist on chops, meatloaf and steak. Each member of our party of five thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The selection of beers, wines and cocktails ensured everyone was happy. By the way, the service was excellent, the staff warm and welcoming, and the chef took time to ask if we were pleased with our selections. We are frequent visitors to the Keys as we have kids and grandchildren who live here. South of the Seven will be a regular stop for us!
