L'Ortolan est un restaurant gastronomique étoilé Michelin disposant de salles à manger privées et qui est situé dans le pittoresque village de Shinfield, à Berkshire. Installé dans un magnifique presbytère, L'Ortolan vous propose une expérience gastronomique décontractée et informelle. Le restaurant a remporté de nombreux prix, dont une étoile Michelin, 3 rosettes AA, ainsi qu'une place dans le Sunday Times Top 20 restaurants au Royaume-Uni en 2016. Les menus inspirés du Chef cuisinier Tom Clarke comprennent un menu du Jour (28 GBP - 32 GBP dîner seulement), à la Carte (58 GBP - 65 GBP), un menu dégustation de 7 services (75 GBP), le menu surprise de 10 services (105 GBP) ainsi que des offres de saison et des souper de dégustation de vins. Leurs sommeliers se feront un plaisir de vous suggérer le vin parfait pour accompagner votre repas. Amazing food it took 45 minutes for our first course to arrive which was a little too slow but then service was impeccable.

Sadly the evening didn’t start that well as the table we sat at for drinks wasn’t clean and there were flies buzzing round. One kept going into our drinks. The food was mediocre. One of the courses we had was “snacks”. This were 3 tiny little cones of nuts between 2 people. One of the cones had 3 nuts in so you couldn’t even share equally. Our starter was really not good. The main was better but the fish was accompanied by one very crispy chip that sprung off everywhere when you tried to cut it. The pre dessert was delicious but the peach dessert was quite bland. Petit fours were excellent. The other really irritating thing about the menu is that of the two starter choices one was a supplement and the same for the two dessert choices. Why do that? It meant that our two guests had to check if we minded them choosing the supplement options which just doesn’t create a relaxing environment. The wine pairings were really good and the sommelier was very interesting. We know that L’ortolan has lost its Michelin star and we were hopeful about the food but we were left disappointed. We won’t be returning and our guests feel the same.

Haven’t been to the l’ortolan for a couple of years - booked at the last minute to give it another try after a previous disappointing visit. Pleased to find the food and service much improved and as a result have already booked another visit later this month

Amazing visit as always. We only go on special occassions but it is worth it. It’s a very special place with excellent service, excellent food and a fantastic environment

Fantastic food - was a little quiet on the lunchtime we visited and that meant the dinning room lacked the relaxed hum we had found there in the past. Service was excellent and overall a great experience.

Our first time here, but it will not be our last. First impressions were positive, with a warm & friendly welcome and we were guided to the bar/conservatory area for pre-dinner drinks. Moving to the restaurant, there was a warm excited buzz about the place, and it was full. We had the ten-course taster menu and it was superb. Each course was obviously crafted with great skill and had its own unique and intense flavours. Service was discreet yet attentive, but never overbearing. The maitre’d was extremely helpful in suggesting wines. Our overall experience was that we had a most excellent meal in beautiful surroundings, and we were attended by extremely polite, friendly and knowledgable staff, who were very attentive but never too much. We will definitely be back for more. Highly recommended.

This was a very generously discounted 7 course meal - two for the price of one. Standards of food and service were not, however compromised. This was a brilliant meal from a new head chef. As a seasoned diner at this excellent establishment I’m delighted to see standards are as high as ever. I wish Jamie and his brigade the best of luck in regaining a much deserved Michelin star. Many thanks to all concerned.

As always another excellent meal , from the chefs nibbles to start to the sweet treats with coffee . Standout dish for me was the tomato starter closely followed by the pre dessert. For my husband it was the guinea fowl. We will be back again.

Very good service. Lovely food. Nice length of time between courses so lunch was very relaxing. A thoroughly enjoyable time.

The food was exceptional, however, the portion sizes were ridiculous. The first course was minute and as for the fish and chip course there was "one" chip. The fillet steak main course was roughly 2 inches by 1 inch in size as part of a 3 course menu and did not look like the picture that was advertised on their website ,where the steak was served in slices. I had a 7 course course tasting menu as a fine dining restaurant in Marlow the day after and I also had a fillet steak as a main course, where it was easily 5 times the size of the one at L'Ortolan. We both came away from the restaurant feeling very hungry. We also felt the overall ambiance felt very "stuffy" and was not very relaxing, and one of the course appeared at the table while I was still eating the previous course.
