Exchequer, also known by regulars and locals as "The Ex", has been called the best kept secret in downtown Chicago.

Family owned and operated since 1969, Exchequer combines a welcoming atmosphere with a fantastic menu featuring a handful of Chicago staples, like Chicago style pizza, Italian beef sandwiches, or a Combo. The Ex was rated #1 Deep Dish Pizza by the Chicago Tribune and received a 4 star rating from Roger Ebert. Over 20 beers on tap, signature cocktails, and delicious food for over 50 years.

I had a late lunch here on my last day in Chicago. We were super hungry so we ordered full slab rips and shrimp Alfredo. Both were cooked to perfection, I couldn’t believe I would eat two main courses but I did without any hesitation. Staff, service and ambiance were fantastic. Definitely a 5 plus experience both for value and quality of food. P.S. decor is simply gorgeous!

My wife and I were attending an event at the Chicago Public Library. We had an early dinner at 4 pm. We arrived and were seated promptly at a table as requested. We each had a cocktail, an Old Fashioned and a Manhattan. Both were well made and strong. we ordered the trio appetizer and the large Harvest Salad. The salad was enough for 4 people, a bargain for 16.50. My wife had the steak sandwich and I ordered a full slab of ribs. We will both get a second meal. Service was smooth. We are looking forward to trying the pizza on our next visit. Great place for pre or post play or event meals.

The food was so good!!! However the service was lacking. You are not permitted to spilt the checks so plan ahead for your group, it took awhile to put the order in however the food came super quick a few was delicious!

The food was good! Atmosphere was perfect. I had The Godfather drink and it was spot on. The waitress was super friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend!

This place was awesome. The steak was great. Great crust, great season, great overall flavor and great cook. My ifw had the alfredo, it was great. The sauce was thick enough to coat but loose enough to scatter over what you need
