Exchequer, also known by regulars and locals as "The Ex", has been called the best kept secret in downtown Chicago.

Family owned and operated since 1969, Exchequer combines a welcoming atmosphere with a fantastic menu featuring a handful of Chicago staples, like Chicago style pizza, Italian beef sandwiches, or a Combo.                                                                                                       The Exchecker is a local favorite. Classic styling and good food. Great drinks and deserts too. The offerings are really a good value , for being down town. Try the pizza and pasta dishes. They have great sandwiches too.

                                                                                                      I had the dinner with the friends who came from Japan. He enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the food. It was a fantastic night!

                                                                                                      Food and drinks were amazing. For appetizers we had the goat cheese with garlic bread and the trio which we pick tenders, onion rings and cheese curds. For drinks we had the God Father and a pomegranate martini both were great drinks. For pizza we got deep dish because it’s Chicago can’t skip on deep dish pizza when in Chicago. We got sausage, pepperoni, spinach and garlic on ours. It was super delicious as always. Definitely highly recommend this place for food and the Chicago history that’s on the walls.

                                                                                                      Picked this place for my daughter’s birthday which I noted in the reservation. No one ever mentioned her birthday (it was a Saturday— it happens). But the vibe from the pictures online didn’t seem like the sports bar vibe we walked into. I didn’t realize how casual of a restaurant it is. The food was outstanding, the service was okay. Again, a Saturday night and so I understand. I was just hoping for a nicer atmosphere than a sports bar vibe. The food was excellent and that’s the main point of a restaurant. So we did enjoy the food.

                                                                                                      Service a little confusing. Staff was not sociable or welcoming. I’m not 100% sure our waitress understood our order. The order delivered was different, but just went with what was served. Nothing stood out about the place. Lots of Chicago (new) memorablia. Restroom was very clean.
