Essence was an absolute delight from arrival to departure. Excellent attention from the moment you arrive, the restaurant is welcoming as are the staff. The menu is varied and well priced for the quality. A good wine list and cocktail menu complete the offerings. The service was excellent and the food superb. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening, complemented by the Jazz on The Pantiles and despite our reservation in the restaurant, the staff were fantastic in delivering our request to enjoy a cocktail outside after we had finished our meal. The manager/owner is clearly hands on and keen to ensure your experience is first class which it absolutely was. Highly recommend and we will definitely be going again.

Second visit to Essence. Food is fantastic and the service very good. Unusual dishes, with individual flavours (No "Curry gravy" here!) It is expensive (especially if you hit the wine list), but really worth it for a special occasion.

Fantastic food. As a regular consumer of Indian food I found several meal options I had never seen before. And they were delicious.

Fabulous, booked after a recommendation. The chicken was moist and tender, the chocolate samosa was awesome. Presentation for all courses was beautiful, Staff were attentive, friendly and efficient. Much more than an average lunch. We will definitely be back.

I’ve been wanting to go for ages so was delighted when it was suggested as a birthday treat. And I was so not disappointed! Indeed, all expectations were exceeded! Amazing food, lovely ambience, great service. Atul has delivered a gem! Thank you

We visited on 22/7/24 for partner’s birthday greeting was nice but our main courses were far from good . I had king prawns which were so overcooked I could not cut or chew them my partner ordered the seared duck which was also so overcooked it was difficult the chew this was replaced with exactly the same my uneaten plate was ignored then we were given a Happy Anniversary plate but it was a birthday as said on booking. The staff were clearly upset and panicking but we just got the bill and left very disappointing I won’t be recommending

Having very much enjoyed dining at the Petts Wood restaurant we were looking forward to the Tunbridge Wells restaurant. Overall the food was tasty and we had a nice evening but it was slightly underwhelming - the service wasn’t as good (more waiters would have helped), and the cost was very high (£93 for poppadoms, two starters, one main, one pint and one Chai tea). The portion sizes were also middling. We were sat outside and were constantly showered in seedlings from the nearby trees which was annoying. Overall, lovely flavours in the food but otherwise quite a few areas for improvement. A set menu would also offer better value as was the case at Petts Wood.
