Elske means love in Danish, a nod to both David Posey’s Danish mother and the fact that the couple got engaged in Copenhagen. “Our travels in Denmark have really influenced us,” Chef Posey said. “We like that clean, simple aesthetic.” The dining room — all crisp lines, minimalist décor & soft lighting — is anchored by a wide open kitchen on one side & a small patio with a working fireplace on the other. Combined with the friendly service, it creates the impression that you’re eating in a supremely tasteful Scandinavian friend’s weekend home.

We’ve been through many great restaurants in Chicago. We had high expectations for Elske. Unfortunately the food was borderline to mediocre. Several ingredients in each course were just there, some overpowering others, no art in making them blend together. The presentation of all dishes was also not impressive. Sad. The outside pateo was nice but I couldn’t believe we had to ask for seat cushions that were available but not offered. Seriously, iron outdoor chairs for a degustation dinner of 2 hours at least? The staff was super nice but unfortunately they couldn’t make up for the fundamental flaws of a restaurant that is not concerned in exceeding customer’s expectations at all. We went back home very frustrated.

Laura was an incredible GM and the staff overall was so welcoming, patient and funny throughout the meal. As out of staters for the weekend, Elske shared their must visit list with us and our server, Mari, even provided personalized recommendations based on her “must see’s” in Chicago. If I was a Chicagoan, I would be a regular here. Thank you Elske team for making this a great experience - it absolutely made our vacation! A must visit!

I really wanted to love this place, but Elske fell a bit short for the investment. The ambiance, service, and flavors of the food are excellent. However, the portions of the tasting menu and wine parings are microscopic for the price. The wine pairing is $60 per person and the wines were poured more like a tasting than a pairing. 5 wines at one ounce per pour is essentially a $60 glass of wine. In retrospect, I wish we had ordered ala carte. Dinner for two including tip is over $500. There are better ways to spend that kind of cash on dinner in Chicago.

Paul was an excellent server. He made good suggestions and was very nice. We thought the food was CRAZY inventive and fun, but we thought some of the flavors could have been more pronounced. The chefs executed beautiful courses with intriguing concepts. Our favorites were the bread and butter appetizer and the cheese and fruit appetizer. The rigatoni needed more pecorino.
