Elske means love in Danish, a nod to both David Posey’s Danish mother and the fact that the couple got engaged in Copenhagen. “Our travels in Denmark have really influenced us,” Chef Posey said. “We like that clean, simple aesthetic.” The dining room — all crisp lines, minimalist décor & soft lighting — is anchored by a wide open kitchen on one side & a small patio with a working fireplace on the other. Combined with the friendly service, it creates the impression that you’re eating in a supremely tasteful Scandinavian friend’s weekend home.

This place has all the charm one would expect from a Nordic restaurant, it’s a little oasis in the middle of Chicago - they nailed it. The food is very good, not fussy but well executed and thoughtful, missing the mark only once or twice and not by much. The lamb tartar (I’m pretty sure a spin on a danish hotdog) was probably the best bite. But I have say, the real standout was the juice pairing. The flavours were obviously intentional and really enchanted the food. Overall a great experience. But I have to say, anyone who’s been to Scandinavia knows you get butter with your bread.

We enjoyed the fixed menu. It was well paced over 2.5+ hours and had a nice variety of dishes, mostly with fish but also including lamb and beef. Our server was great in explaining the wines that went with the dishes.

Very nice place, with friendly staff. The food was good, but not michelin star worth.

I don’t know if the kitchen had an off night or tonight was typical; but, the food was not good. We did the tasting menu and had to send two dishes back. One was overcooked fish and one was terrible pasta. The food was too expensive to not be excellent and it was so far from excellent.

We loved some dishes (chickpea pancake, frikadella, melon sorbet) here but others not so much…esp the bread which was warm but had a gummy crust that made it impossible to chew, the too creamy agnolotti, and the otherwise flavorful roasted chicken forced into a slightly rubbery loaf. Service was well timed and attentive but note a birthday in the reservation that went unremarked.

I can’t say enough good things about our experience - the food, service, and space were all incredible. We’ll keep Elske in mind when we need a special meal in the future.

A lovely fall evening on their beautiful patio. Delicious food- the trout pancake was really a trout pancake!

Was expecting a Michelin experience and unfortunately it fell very flat. The food was fine, the timing between meals was terrible. Waitress barely said a single word. I will say the ambiance is quite nice, but won’t be returning for close to $300 for 2 people.

The wonderful food was marred by indifferent and somewhat dismissive service. For a restaurant of this caliber that prides itself on innovative food, I would expect some enthusiasm about the actual meal. It took determined questioning on our part to get a any sort of explanation of the items, and his responses did nothing to encourage any particular selections. It was almost like everything's good, why are you bothering me with these questions. The server did make eye contact, but didn't seem to really care that he was "serving" us. Other staff members would drop dishes off, say the name, and then disappear. I wouldn't mind this at a typical restaurant, but given the nature of the items, a little detail about the dish would have been appreciated. Another time a manager, I think, was at our table and walked away while I was still speaking to her. It often took several tries to get someone's attention to refill water glasses, and I had to bother the table next to us when trying to get our server's attention for something else. We were seated outside in a beautiful garden/patio, and the food was truly one of the best meals I've had a in a long time. Despite the service, I would return in a heartbeat, but the service--what a disappointment--and I certainly didn't leave feeling that we were valued as patrons.
