In the heart of Sugar House, El Cholo has been serving classic dishes and margaritas in a traditional setting since 1923. Reservations recommended.

We have complimentary parking behind our restaurant. Free street parking is plentiful. Also, AFTER 5:30PM we have secured the lot next door at the Kimball Office Complex at 2178 South 900 East.

Just like El Cholo in LA. Service was great. Food was fantastic. Still thrilled to have my favorite Mexican restaurant from LA in Salt Lake.

If you’re looking for incredible Mexican food in Salt Lake City, El Cholo is hands down our go-to spot. The food is always exceptional—authentic, flavorful, and made with care. Whether you’re craving sizzling fajitas, fresh guacamole, or hearty enchiladas, every dish hits the mark. The flavors are rich, the portions are generous, and the quality is consistently top-notch. Not only is the food amazing, but the environment at El Cholo really makes it special. Enjoyed El Cholo. Chips and salsa are some of ours favorite. The food we all had was good, though came out somewhat slower than expected. We enjoyed the restaurant, though we wish it would be closer to us in Utah County. Hope there is one there in the future. We will be back!

Our server, Rocky, had a great personality! And the manager was awesome, though I didn't catch her name. She helped me find the name of the company that makes the gorgeous mugs they use for their tableside hot chocolate and I've got my own set ordered! We enjoyed our 2nd visit almost as much as our first (the first time is always a little hard to top, isn't it?) - we really liked the upstairs ambiance the first time we visited but it wasn't open on our 2nd visit. I think the first floor gets a little louder and hearing-challenges were a bit more noticable. We WILL be back and can't wait for Green Corn Tamales this summer!!

Really good food. We have been here a number of times; I also grew up in Southern California and my family used to frequent El Cholo for years. Their high quality has never changed.

Food was good. Could have been warmer . The food was lukewarm and same with Hot Chocolate. The Hot Chocolate however was amazing! It’s made table side .
