In the heart of Sugar House, El Cholo has been serving classic dishes and margaritas in a traditional setting since 1923. Reservations recommended.

We have complimentary parking behind our restaurant. Free street parking is plentiful. Also, AFTER 5:30PM we have secured the lot next door at the Kimball Office Complex at 2178 South 900 East.

First time in and Karen (name?) was just lovely. She gave us a complimentary table side guacamole. Everything was really good and service was outstanding. Will try other dishes next time in Salt Lake City. Thank you El Cholo and Karen!

I had my birthday dinner there and we had around 18 people. The two servers did a great job and made things right with an issue one of my friend’s had. They were quick to resolve it. The food was delicious as always and they provided a cute souvenir photo as well. If you haven’t tried El Cholo, you should!!

Guacamole was good but rest of the food was just mediocre. Good ambiance and service was decent but food was nothing special.

Superb food and excellent, friendly staff who do their jobs well! Portions are very generous and prices quite reasonable. Dining room is comfortable and attractive. I highly recommend.

We had 5 in our party with a reservation. The table set up was awkward, a chair added to end of booth. I was surprised to see I was charged for soda water, not Topo Chico but water out of dispenser. Food great service great

It has a vast menu of different authentic Mexican foods. The portions are sufficient for two people BUT, dont order Caesar salad as they have no idea what is suppose to be, not worth it at all. free refill on soft drinks

Food was great version of Cali-mex! We split a large plate, plenty of food for the two of us. The cocktails made with housemade lemonade were excellent The restaurant needs to be awarded best interior. It is beautiful! We will be back , I would love to sit on rooftop patio this time.

Overall we ordered: Guacamole ⭐️ Taquitos ⭐️ (they were burnt) Fish tacos ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Steak fajitas ⭐️⭐️⭐️ For drink: Horchata ⭐️ (it tasted like zuko) Coconut Margarita ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Service is amazing but I think the prices are too high They messed up with our order, they were nice about not charging us (but we felt bad for the waiter) so we left a good tip for the waiter.
