Installé dans un ancien bâtiment de la compagnie de taxis Checker Taxi, l'El Che Bar est dirigé par John Manion. D'inspiration argentino-américaine, le restaurant représente avec amour le temps qu'il a passé à voyager en Argentine. L'établissement au cadre chaleureux et éclectique rappelle les rythmes contemporains de Buenos Aires revisités avec une approche locale. Le restaurant dégage une ambiance accueillante aux tons chauds, avec des clins d'œil subtils à l'Amérique du Sud. L'élégant bar en marbre noir contraste avec l'espace cuisine ouvert rudimentaire, où Manion cuisine des plats au feu de bois Al Asador. Des légumes locaux, des viandes grillées et des fruits de mer seront préparés sur les grills sur mesure et les plaques, dans un foyer ouvert. Awesome meal. Very lively scene on a Sunday evening. Our food and wine (suggested by the Sommelier) were fantastic. I don’t live in Chicago but if I did this would be somewhere I would return to. The beef fat fries are so thin and crisp. My hangar steak was cooked perfectly and so tender as well as flavorful. The chef’s attention to details is evident in the first class quality of the food. Keep room for dessert as the Gelato (Dulce de leche and chocolate) were a perfect ending to this amazing meal!

The food is very mediocre. The inside of the restaurant is very elegant and decorative though. I probably wouldn’t go back.

Fantastic experience all around. We did the NY Strip and the Wagyu. Both were amazing and cooked to perfection.

The seafood platter is a must! Everything my husband and I ate and drank was delicious. But the seafood platter was a definite star. The grill brings out the flavor of the seafood and everything was cooked to perfection. Nothing was over cooked which can easily happen with seafood but that wasn’t the case at El Che. We started off the truffle empanada and the dipping sauce brought out the flavor even more. We had asparagus and sweet potatoes to go with the seafood platter and those were just as tasty as everything else on our table. Their version of the Paloma was delish too as we were a bit unsure bc of the pink peppercorn, but it worked. Not overly peppery. I don’t know how found room for dessert but I did. The molten lava cake was solid, but nothing spectacular. I replaced the coconut gelato with Dulce de leche gelato, which I liked better than the cake itself. We’re already talking about when we’re going to go back to El Che. Highly recommend!!

Went here for a Father’s Day’s dinner. El Chè didn’t disappoint. The steaks were perfectly cooked. The empanadas are a must. The giant sundae was the perfect capper to the evening.
