Installé dans un ancien bâtiment de la compagnie de taxis Checker Taxi, l'El Che Bar est dirigé par John Manion. D'inspiration argentino-américaine, le restaurant représente avec amour le temps qu'il a passé à voyager en Argentine. L'établissement au cadre chaleureux et éclectique rappelle les rythmes contemporains de Buenos Aires revisités avec une approche locale. Le restaurant dégage une ambiance accueillante aux tons chauds, avec des clins d'œil subtils à l'Amérique du Sud. L'élégant bar en marbre noir contraste avec l'espace cuisine ouvert rudimentaire, où Manion cuisine des plats au feu de bois Al Asador. Des légumes locaux, des viandes grillées et des fruits de mer seront préparés sur les grills sur mesure et les plaques, dans un foyer ouvert. Always a terrific meal with super friendly staff. Happy Hour at the bar is excellent and gives you an opportunity to try a few menu items. Never disappoints!

My husband and I came in to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary. We were both excited and looking forward to it since the photos and reviews were great. The service and presentation were fantastic but the quality and portion was not substantial to the price. We’ve dined at other steak restaurants in Chicago, and for the value, the portions matched the price. Overall, a good place for drinks and appetizers. Come here not hungry!

We came here to celebrate my husband’s birthday and the fact that we’re newlyweds. We had a wonderful time! The food and the drinks were great. The scallops and lobster were a creamy buttery wonder that melted in my mouth. Run don’t walk towards a reservation!

The food was amazingly creative and delicious. We had a lovely salad. I had scallops that were fabulous and my husband had a beautiful fillet. We had two interesting sides, broccolini and sweet potato. I truthfully was very disappointed in the dessert that looked like a blockbuster and it was really a prop And amazing looking Sunday that was filled filled with whip cream. I think other desserts might be much better.

I love El Che. Every steak I’ve ever had here has been phenomenal. We had the party steak on my last visit and it was just right for 3 people. The empanadas, grilled oysters, and papas bravas were highlights as well. Huge plus for me: the atmosphere is not pretentious or stuffy like so many other Chicago steakhouses.

Went there to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The Food was good but nothing I can’t have elsewhere. I ordered empanadas to start which were tasty. For my main dish was surf and turf and husband had a ribeye with fries which where on point. The best part of our meal was the empanadas and fries which for an Argentinian restaurant is not that great. Server was ok, nice but a bit cold and not as attentive as we hoped. If you dine here hopefully you get Guillermo because he was helping the table next to us and was very cheerful, and a lot more attentive and warm. The ambience is way too loud you can’t hold a conversation nor would you want to because there’s no privacy anyway as people are seated almost on top of each other almost elbow to elbow. I would have hoped that the hostess knowing we (party of two) were celebrating something she would’ve sat us in a more private area rather than between two large loud parties (attention to detail matters) or how about asking us since there were tables available when we arrived. Overall it was a 7/10 experience I would return but not any time soon.
