Installé dans un ancien bâtiment de la compagnie de taxis Checker Taxi, l'El Che Bar est dirigé par John Manion. D'inspiration argentino-américaine, le restaurant représente avec amour le temps qu'il a passé à voyager en Argentine. L'établissement au cadre chaleureux et éclectique rappelle les rythmes contemporains de Buenos Aires revisités avec une approche locale. Le restaurant dégage une ambiance accueillante aux tons chauds, avec des clins d'œil subtils à l'Amérique du Sud. L'élégant bar en marbre noir contraste avec l'espace cuisine ouvert rudimentaire, où Manion cuisine des plats au feu de bois Al Asador. Des légumes locaux, des viandes grillées et des fruits de mer seront préparés sur les grills sur mesure et les plaques, dans un foyer ouvert. Spécialisée dans les spiritueux des Amériques, la carte des boissons propose également un menu de cocktails aventureux.

Food was very good, as publicized definitely start with the empanadas, they were amazing. The seafood platter was delicious and for those wondering you can get a 1/2 serving which is a great move. The steak was very good, we got the New York strip, it wasn’t life changing nor the best I’ve had, but definitely a quality steak. Overall I think this is a must do for a date night or special occasion.

Can't go wrong with the Empanadas, Ian! We're so happy that you thoroughly enjoyed your dining experience at El Che. Thanks for spreading the word about the half order of the Mar de Plata. It's an excellent option to save room for a variety of other dishes. We take a lot of pride in our quality cuts and do our best to let the wood-fire grill and the beef itself do most of the talking. Service was great…very attentive. The food was mediocre for the price. The oysters have change and were okay, the Italian beef empanadas were the star of the night, and finally the steak frites was okay. The steak was a little overcooked and not very moist. Glad we tried but better steakhouses in Chicago.

The Hanger Steak Frites are a prized cut of beef, but best prepared medium rare due to its high muscular texture. Service was great, but the food was horrible. It was also overpriced. Drastically overpriced. I feel bad writing this review because the service was so good. The waiters and restaurant staff are very nice. However, the food was really bad.

Always love the vibe at El Che and the food is on another level. I trust the kitchen as they always hit a home run -especially with my steak. Full of flavor and hits the tongue in a melting way. Coming back and bringing more family and friends.

This place.. from finding parking right away literally feet from the entry door, to the dimmed lit, calm, intimate and so soothing ambiance, to the excellent customer service (kept coming to check on us, wiping down our table, asking if we needed anything - uber attentive), and now the food... AH!!! The wedge salad: to die for! Bone-In Steak surf-n-turf, cooked well: PHENOMENAL. The lobster tail was small and tasted a bit fishy, but all was still swell. The Branzino: good lawd almighty! My first time, so NO I was not expecting an entire fish to arrive with head in tow, so I pre-judged. It was the best flavoring, roasted whole, served with lemon, then covered in this sauce and bread crumbs, it was so good and professionally prepared. We were blown away! Grilled oysters: The taste: So fresh, so clean-clean, well seasoned covered w/Pico de Gallo, mm mm mm, should have been 6 though instead of 4 (complaint #1)! I didn't taste my man's empanada, but he says it was terrific. It is quite pricey overall (spent $500 includes $90 tip), but perfect/worth it place for date night, a special occasion, or to grab a good ole mood. I am highly impressed, top tier around the board. YES, WE WILL BE BACK ... with BELLS ON!!!!

Our waiter was excellent. He was able to help us select a wine in our price range and with the flavor profile we wanted. The steak was very good for the price. he one complaint I have is that I have a dairy intolerance and the seafood options all had dairy. Saying that, I was not disappointed in my steak. I think I would really enjoy going back for one of the wine pairing events.
