Welcome to Down the Hatch - EDINBURGH!

We are a diner focusing on diner style food with big flavour, fresh ingredients, huge taste and all things Canadian!!

Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult and are not permitted from 8pm onwards.

We have a 10 minute grace period for your booking. Please give us a call if you are running late for your booking.

Your table will be booked for 1 hour 15 minutes for bookings of up to 6 people; and 1 hour 45 minutes for bookings of 7+.

We have a limited number of outside tables. These are not bookable at the moment and are on a first come, first served basis.

Last bookings are 9.15pm as our kitchen closes at 9.45pm, 7 days a week.

Nice food and friendly atmosphere. Would have liked the food and my coffee to have been hotter but it was very tasty. Have been a few times and will come again as it’s my daughter’s favourite vegetarian/vegan burger. Staff are always friendly and we love that they are actually Canadian as it creates a great experience. Makes me want to visit Canada. Thank you and see you again soon.

Service is unsatisfactory. Staff stood/sat around doing what appears to be nothing and have to be prompted to take orders, follow up on orders, request the bill etc. I noticed this to be the case across all tables; the service was very reactive, yet a service charged is landed on the bill with such a sense of entitlement. Shame, because the food here was really nice.

Don't know what was going on in the kitchen but our experience was poor. My chicken burger was raw in the middle. The staff dealt with it swiftly, were very apologetic and the manager was straight over to try and put things right. My friend had ordered the same type of burger and although it was cooked, the chicken was quite 'sinewy' in texture so replacements were arranged. Complimentary drinks were offered to us. My replacement smash burger was fine but my friend's was really quite pink in the middle and it was sent back. By this time we were more concerned about an upset stomach than finishing our food as we had a show to go to. The 3rd smash burger came but our hearts weren't in it so it was left untouched. All through the staff were apologetic and tried to put it right but we won't go back.

Had the GOAT burger doubled up on a GF bun it was the best burger I have even eaten.

Excellent food, service and atmosphere as always - reliable as ever for a good burger, haggis poutine and some hot sauce splashed on the chicken.

Another great visit to Down the hatch. We were greeted by a friendly member of staff. Out server was also very friendly Food was brilliant as usual, I went for the special of the week!

We enjoyed our meal, and will likely come back, and will recommened. The milkshake was good--I miss proper milkshakes. The curds were good, but it's normal on a poutine for them to be melting into the chips, not sitting on top in solid chunks; hot chips, hot sauce, melty curds. Haggis on poutine is a genius idea!

Food very slow to come out so would recommend allowing plenty of time if you are seeing something across the road after. Staff are friendly but not super impressed with the service as asked for a glass with ice three times for my partners drink and they never came.

Excellent food as always. Good friendly service. Even got to watch some of the Olympics on the big screen as an added bonus.
