Where to begin… The one star is for the beautiful decoration and nothing else. It was confusion from the beginning when our host offered us either a lunch menu or dinner menu despite showing up for a 6 o’clock dinner reservation. The dinner menu was the expected “season to sparkle” menu while the lunch menu was the generic, year-round menu. The host showed us our table and asked what we would like to drink and if we would like to order any appetizers before we had a chance to look at the menu, let alone sit down, so we asked for just a minute. This was a mistake. Our waitress didn’t appear for about 15 minutes. She was kind and very sweet but she had no knowledge of the menu and couldn’t answer any questions. None of the three appetizers on the menu - a soup, a shrimp on a crostini, and a salad - were shareable so we chose to order chips and salsa from the lunch menu. About another 15 minutes later they arrived and to our surprise it seemed to just be store-bought tortilla chips and Great Value salsa from a jar at Walmart. The $15 sugar cookie martinis showed up next and were probably the highlight of the meal, which is not a recommendation to order it. The drink itself was tasty but simple with no complexity. The glass was rimmed in what again tasted just like store-bought vanilla frosting and coated with rainbow sprinkles with a tiny candy cane hanging from the rim. Remove the vodka and it would have been fit for a child’s birthday party. My friend and I ordered the free-range chicken and another friend ordered the cod. For $25, this was the biggest letdown. The spottily cooked chicken had skin on some parts and not on others, was dry, chewy, and bland. The weird science experiment of gray, gloopy, and rubbery mashed potatoes underneath the chicken should never be served again, anywhere. The one piece of broccolini on the side was the best part of the dish, sadly. Be warned that you are paying for the ambiance and hopefully you won’t be disappointed as we were.
