We took some dear friends here as thank you for their help with a project. They are also big fans of Donato. I have to say it was probably one of the best dinners we’ve had there and all the dinners are usually great. But this night was exceptional. We had Samuel as our waiter and everything was phenomenal along with his great service and, every morsel food. The Branzino was perfect as were the pastas. Truly exceptional food and service.

I like to think I know my way around an Italian restaurant having been in the wine business there for over 30 years but every meal I have at this 'locanda' on College Ave reminds me that we can do pretty well here too. Chef Gianluca has a lighter touch and even sometimes meh dishes like the ubiquitous Vitello Tonnato come alive under his guidance. A tagliatelle pasta with a duck ragu can, in the wrong hands, land with a thud but his last night was gossamer light and the ragu simply delightful. Our bartender/server recommended the lamb to go with the bottle of 2015 Barolo I had brought and it was perfect- the lamb a rosy pink and the artichokes cooked soft and luscious- not at all the wine killer they could have been. There is even an expanded list of Amari so even if you don't want any of their excellent desserts (what's wrong with you!?), you can prolong your visit with a nice glass of something fun. I've eaten here now a dozen or more times and it seems to get better every time I visit. And, unlike my most recent dining out experience in the area, there wasn't even any sticker shock! Bravo Donato & Co.

Love the cocktails. The linguini with clams was very good and the bolognese beef pasta was a hit! Service was a little slow but it was quite busy and we were fine with the extra visiting time.

What a great find! Menu offers many options and everything we ordered tasted great and was very fresh. Service and food were fantastic and portions were right size - not the oversized ones many Italian restaurants serve where you leave feeling guilty about wasting food. Will look forward to going back again!

Excellent experience from the start. As soon as we entered, of course we did have a reservation, but we were greeted kindly and gracefully. We were immediately sat at a very nice table. They paid attention to my request for a romantic table. Our server was impeccable. Polite, punctual attentive. Our meal was exceptional. Value was very good considering the area. Good parking. After dinner, we sat at the bar. A chat with Massimo was invaluable. We learned about Italy over a fabulous cocktail. Excellent somewhat casual fine dining experience.

I’m hoping it was a one time situation since this restaurant came highly recommended. We had made reservations with plenty of time to only be seated outside and forgotten about. Service was poor. Food took forever to come out only after the busboy realized that we were just sitting there; after food came, we waited around to order something else but our server was missing in action even to reorder drinks. I had to finally get up to ask for our bill only to realize they brought the wrong one to us! There was no intention to remedy the situation on their part… we did not like one dish so it went untouched. Only then, the server “asked” if we wanted it off the bill after seeing our frustration with everything else! the other two dishes were great. It was a birthday celebration so we were so disappointed with the end result of a well planned night!

Lovely place for dinner. Good, varied Italian menu, wine list, cocktails and amaro. Warm, attentive, professional service. Quiet. The appetizers, duck mousse and arancini were excellent as were pasta dishes and pulpo. Reasonable prices. Neighborhood favorite.
