Aptly named for its marina-facing, bayfront locale at the Bahia Resort Hotel and the year that the resort opened, Dockside 1953 is a stunning standout sure to invigorate San Diego’s dining scene. Fresh, coastal-inspired, and locally sourced -- our eclectic menu of California fare features dishes to satisfy all palates. With a dedication to high-quality ingredients, menu highlights include butterscotch banana French toast and chilaquiles for breakfast, rockfish ceviche’ and a selection of flatbreads for lunch, pan-seared seabass and steak frites au poivre for dinner, and a thoughtful wine and cocktail menu. Nice place. Open and bright inside. A lot of patio seating. Fire pit tables are available. The food was good but I would have liked a few more meal selections. The shrimp pasta was bland but the wedge salad and the braised short rib were good. Dessert selection was just ok. We ended with the gelato.

This was my first time here. I normally go to the Catamaran but I’m so happy I branched out and tried this. It did not disappoint in fact it exceeded my expectations. We had a lovely table outside with a fire pit. The atmosphere is perfect! Our server was knowledgeable about the menu. She knew my friends and I were busy talking and catching up and we never felt rushed by her. She was very understanding. The food was delicious, particularly the scallops. I’m definitely bringing my boyfriend here.

Service was slow and inattentive. Eggs Benedict - yolk was super hard. Food took a long time to come out.

Arrived for a 530 reservation for three outdoors was seated immediately. I can’t say enough about the service. We were served by Cyana (I hope I’m spelling her name right). Her recommendations for cocktails and entrées were spot on! We shared a crabcake and mushrooms for appetizer, then split the short ribs and chicken, followed by pie with ice cream. Everything was delicious.

Excellent experience. Excellent food quality, staff service, and outside ambiance. Negative: early, unannounced, Monday night food service discontinued.

Dated inside and bar area was sad. Drinks and food took a long time to arrive. Food quality was ok. The view was awesome. I consider this place a one and done visit.

We were greeted immediately upon arrival and offered a selection of tables. We elected inside although the expansive glass in the dining room allowed us to still enjoy the dockside ambiance and I believe that would be true from any of the indoor tables. There is a bit of interesting history about the place and the host was kind enough in taking the time to walk me through some of it. Our cocktails were prepared as requested and served promptly. We enjoyed some local raw oysters on the half shell followed by The Bread Service a spiced sourdough offering accompanied by, whipped smoked sea salt butter and dill caper butter. Finished all that and continued on with Prince Edward Island mussels steamed in white wine with garlic, fennel, Fresno chilies, butter and some grilled bread for dunking. The fine service continued throughout. The food was good and commensurate with the menu pricing. I would not hesitate to recommend and would return on my next opportunity. Enjoy.
