Welcome to dLeña, a Wood-Fire Mexican Cocina & Mezcaleria by Chef Richard Sandoval.

dLeña is derived from the Spanish word “leña,” meaning firewood. The restaurant is centered around it’s wood-burning grill - a nod to the rustic open-fire cooking techniques of Mexico’s past.

The menu transports diners to Mexico through a multi-sensory experience in every bite of the signature smoked entrées, fresh ceviches, and unique sharing plates. The expansive bar features hand-crafted margaritas, Latin cocktails, cervezas and vino.

The appetizers were delicious, but the drinks and entrees left a lot to be desired. I was under the impression this was a nicer restaurant, but the service and loud environment were that of a busy cafeteria. I’m a big fan of tequila and mezcal, but the drink I ordered was awful. At a nicer establishment, I’d expect a server to pick up on the fact that I only took two sips of my drink and offer something that I’d enjoy. But nope, they could not care less. My friend ordered a steak rare and it came out well done and the server stated that the confusion could have been due to the fact that a “female has never ordered a rare steak here before”. Unfortunately I will not be returning here again. It might be fine for appetizers, but I would not spend money on an entire meal with drinks given the high menu prices and environment.

Came in for an early lunch before a business meeting. Staff was attentive, food was great! Definitely a “come back” spot!

Wonderful time spent at Dlena with family and friends. Excellent service, great food, flavorful. Drinks and that table side Tomahawk steak! Delicious.

Brunch was great, the food was good. We opted for bottomless food and drinks, they sent the food out quickly, however our reservation was at 1:45 and they basically kicked us out at 3 pm. You do not get the full two hours if your reservation is past 1 pm.

dLena was definitely worth the wait! I'd been trying to go for brunch for a while, but it always booked and now I understand why. We went from brunch hand it was incredible! The waiter was very attentive and offered to put in more drink orders every time he came by. He essentially ordered everything for us and it came out in waves of dishes so each person had their own bite (their own ceviche, their own taco, their own tostada, etc.) They also accommodated one of our friends who was pescatarian, so she had her own meat-free dishes separately. The only complaint would be that we ended up sending the last round of food back (enchiladas and a few other items) because we were too full. (Admittedly, we had no idea there was more coming or we would have said not to bring it.) I completely understand not wanting guests to take advantage with leftovers given that it's bottomless food, but it felt like a waste to throw it out. In any event, I will 100% be going back!

Wonderful experience and the brunch is top notch. I didn’t realize we would be sampling an array of dishes in the bottomless brunch menu. Certainly worth the price!

This restaurant’s ambience was very seductive, definitely a great date night experience. Food was well seasoned and packed with flavor. Cocktails were top notched. Mixologist were on they’re A games. Did I forget to mention the speak easy downstairs with live Jazz. Definitely a must go when in The District.
