A lockdown obsession for Rinaldo Di Stasio and Mallory Wall, Di Stasio Pizzeria is poised to open in Carlton in mid-November. The third venue for the high-profile restaurateur couple sits behind the King and Godfree complex on the corner of Lygon and Faraday streets and has glamorous echoes of their Di Stasio Citta pleasure palace in the city. Designed by architect Di Ritter of Hassell, also responsible for Citta, the pizzeria has three separate spaces inside, adorned with Reko Rennie artwork and Shaun Gladwell sculptures, and a courtyard bar centred around a fountain imported from the Roman countryside. Chef Federico Congiu, who has worked with Di Stasio for five years, is making his own jersey milk mozzarella fiore di latte for the pizzas. Congiu has sourced five growers around the Yarra Valley to grow and preserve San Marzano tomatoes for pizza toppings and is having special durum wheat flour milled in Tamworth.

Absolutely delicious Italian food that was impeccable. After a recent trip to Italy, I wanted pizza and pasta like there and this place did not disappoint. A great selection of food and drink made for a fantastic anniversary celebration for my wife and I. We will return.

Was quite on the pricey side, was shocked my Martini was $27 but overall amazing experience and food.

Food was amazing and service was the best. Staff were so lovely. We were lucky enough to have amazing August weather so we also got to enjoy our meal in the sunshine of the courtyard. We had a beautiful day and look forward to returning

Phenominal food and eating in the outside courtyard was a beautiful setting. Loved it!

The food was great. But we were let down by the inability to split the bill at the end of the evening. I offered to calculate the shares with the staff member but he refused, asking us to settle up between us on our own time (there were only three of us). This final act of inflexibility provided a dark cloud over what had been a lovely night.

While the food was excellent - none of us enjoyed the lack of lighting over our table. The waiter was ‘complicated’ -hit and miss with providing guidance on the menu (we had no inkling there were specials available till everyone had made their choices and were ready to order); walked away halfway through dessert orders (admittedly to check nut content but didn’t return for the rest of the orders). One of my guests had to find him to convey the additional orders; hard to hear over the noise but could’ve been helped by where he positioned himself while he talked through the specials. A bit frustrating but overall a good night at Di Stasio despite this..

We had a lovely time, the food was beautiful and the service was excellent. My only suggestion would be to include some less expensive wines on the wine list.

Below expectations - cold, dark and weird. Customer service was blase and indifferent- we asked for bread before the meal and it came out last - “I thought it would be better all together”. Wait staff were inattentive, and the dining area so ridiculously dark that you can’t read the menu. Food was good but not great - won’t be back
