The Devonshire Arms, in the stunning Peak District National Park, is a stylish bar and restaurant, with 11 individually designed en suite double rooms.

Our talented executive chef, Darren Goodwin, and his team deliver mouthwatering dishes every day of the week, complemented by an extensive wine list, a choice of cask ales and European lagers, and a wide range of premium spirits.

We pride ourselves on our wine list, which includes many wines not available in other venues or on the high street, with over 35 wines that are available by the glass and bottle.

Came here in 2022 and it was amazing. However, food was quite poor this time round. The roast dinner tasted and looked as though it had been microwaved, the food was really quite bland. Overall really disappointing as had been looking forward to returning.

Went for a Sunday roast lunch. Very disappointed with quantity and quality. We had one chicken and one pork roast dinner. The pork was very fatty and you on had one slice and I only got one chicken leg for my portion. The vegetables were very hit and miss as to how much they had or hadn’t been cooked with most of the veg being undercooked. We also both had the wild mushroom starter but this was quite bland and required a lot of salt and pepper to liven it up. We didn’t stay for dessert. The staff were polite and helpful. We were sat in the oval room with a large family get together and it was difficult to hear each other due to the sound resonating in the room. Won’t be returning.

Food ok — but on the pricey side for ok. Calamari overly spicy. Chicken burger a bit plain…

Food was cold, bland and missing some of the things advertised. The pastry was also burnt.

Putting as much effort into this review as they put into cooking my steak 🥩 Ordered 2 Aberdeen Angus sirloin steaks that are “best served medium-rare”, yet both came out medium, or maybe what the chef thinks is medium rare. Whilst it wasn’t the worst steak I’ve ever had, the profit margin on it must be insane as it definitely did not merit the £31 price tag.

Food was tasteless and chewy and the portions were tiny for the price. We had two attentive waitresses and one slow and forgetful waitress . Unfortunately would not recommend going for food. The bar is the best part with very friendly staff.

Sunday lunch. I had the vegetarian option which was butternut squash wellington and was delicious. The potatoes and vegetables could have been hotter but the wellington was very hot. Hubby had beef, the meat was cooked well and plenty of it. Same for the spuds and veg could have been hotter. Overall I enjoyed the meal which cost just under £20 each.

Lovely food and staff. Only problem was finding a parking space. The car park doesn’t seem to be bit enough to cope with the amount of guests and visitors but it didn’t take away from the enjoyable visit.

It was our 4th visit to the Devonshire Arms. We used to stay there because the accommodation and the food were great. If the accommodation is still fine, we cannot say the same about the food. They used to have a wonderful menu with a great choice and the cook was fabulous. Never disappointed... this time it was the opposite ! It seems than since punch tavern took over they ve killed the good food. We are very sorry for the staff who used to be there before and have to serve frozen pub food... of bad quality. We ve ordered the wild mushrooms on sourdough bread... the only wildness was in the way they ve been put on the plate. Basic frozen mushrooms... then rack of lamb... never seen a so hard meat, with 1 cm of fat around it and even the cut of the meat was not in the right way ! Awful ! The camembert choice was a safe one... but you can make it bad as well... no taste at all and you have to pay for 4 leaves of salad which have had already another life before... no dressing !! What a poor dinner ! Unfortunately the service wasn't very good as our waitress seems very lost and didn't have a clue about serving... we ve ordered a starter and a main but she came back to ask if we wanted the starter with the main... then if we wanted the Camembert, which was a main, with the lamb... then change the fork holding it by the fork and not the handle... some training would be appropriate sometimes ! We could see the drop of the place, as the bar, usually full on Friday evening was empty and the restaurant too ! Thank you to the new owners to have kill a wonderful place. So sorry for the manager and staff who are all doing what they can to keep positive. We can stay that the staff is friendly and most of them very professionnel. It saved a bit the moment.
