In 1962, Johnny Harlowe made the jump from the silver screen to chef and owner of Dear John’s. Convinced by his pal Frank Sinatra, Johnny opened the iconic spot just a ways down from Sony Studios on Culver Blvd. It became the watering-hole for the Hollywood elite with Sinatra often in the corner playing the piano against the dark brick walls once lined with portraits of famous John’s. Seasoned chefs and entrepreneurs Hans Röckenwagner and Josiah Citrin have teamed up to re-open Dear John’s with an updated classic American menu and old-school cocktail list.

Felt like we stepped back into 60s/70s. Amazing ambiance and service. My favorite ribeye in LA as of now. Great experience overall

Very loud could barely hear someone across the table. Also very dark. Could not see the chair I was siting on or the steak I was eating.

The waiter really did not seem to want us there. Tried to rush us out from the very beginning. Did not feel like we could even have a conversation before rushing orders in and delivering the cheque while we were still finishing.

We have been looking forward to dining at Daer John’s for a long time and we were not disappoonted! The food and service were outstanding and we definitely will return. The only negative for me was the pervasive odor of the fuel used for the table candles; it made my nose run during our meal!

The food and service were great. The ambience was cozy though a bit loud, but that does not take away from the experience.

We have loved dining at Dear Jane’s and were really looking forward to our dinner at Dear John’s. If the goal is the have the restaurants be as different as possible - mission accomplished. We hated Dear John’s!!! It was took dark, by far and entirely too noisy. I ordered the prime streak and it was inedible - gristly and tough. When I complained to the waiter he offered to replace but that would have meant eating my meal long after my companions had finished. He should have comped my wine, at the very least. We all left very disappointed and will be complaining to our friends for a long time.
