In 1962, Johnny Harlowe made the jump from the silver screen to chef and owner of Dear John’s. Convinced by his pal Frank Sinatra, Johnny opened the iconic spot just a ways down from Sony Studios on Culver Blvd. It became the watering-hole for the Hollywood elite with Sinatra often in the corner playing the piano against the dark brick walls once lined with portraits of famous John’s. Seasoned chefs and entrepreneurs Hans Röckenwagner and Josiah Citrin have teamed up to re-open Dear John’s with an updated classic American menu and old-school cocktail list.

Great food and real old-style charm. The inside would have been better, but it's less noisy outside. The waiter was fantastic.

Great place with outstanding food. The limited menu isn’t a handicap but a benefit to the customer because it’s so hard to decide which delicious item you want to eat tonight. Eric, our waiter, was attentive and always an arms length away if we needed anything else. Large portions helped with the sticker shock of the overall price but we knew what we were getting into going into the night. We finished off with a decadent dessert that completed an amazing experience. Well done Dear John’s!

We had to wait too long for our waiter who seemed to have too many tables. But he was good once he arrived. Our porterhouse orders medium arrived very rare. We sent it back. When it returned it was cooked more but only some of the steak was past medium rare. I like the restaurant but these were demerits.

Probably one of the best steaks in town, the pigs in a blanket, not so much. Love the music. Service was excellent but the outside space was not very attractive.

I didn’t expect to be seated in the parking lot. If I would’ve known in advance I would not have booked the place, specially when they charge for cancellation.

Not what it used to be, prices are almost usury, portions are small. The old style laid back place has been transformed into a Hollywood blvd level tourist trap, without the unique experience. They were busy on a Tuesday m, to the point that the man in dining room was unattainable for a reservation, and the pot smell wafting over the parking lot “patio” fence made me long for someone having a better time. Too bad, the classic charm is gone. Better off at Musso’s or Taylor’s for the price.

Great atmosphere, solid dinner menu. All classics, very well executed. Expertly crafted cocktails. Very accommodating when our ride got us to the restaurant 15min late. Thank you, it was great, and we can't wait to come back!
