Dear Friend is Downtown Dartmouth's cocktail & wine bar. Join us in our cozy, European style cocktail bar or on our vibrant patio for great food, amazing cocktails, attentive service and awesome music. Located in the heart of Downtown Dartmouth on Portland Street, we are steps away from the Dartmouth Waterfront and Alderney Ferry Terminal. Our small plate food menu showcases Chef Bradley George's take on fresh Nova Scotian seafood and cured meats, as well as small plates with Asian and Spanish influences. Our bar team features some of the best the country has to offer; always creating new flavours and perfecting classics. Join us for our Oyster Happy Hour, everyday from 4pm-5pm, or book a table with friends to imbibe. We have lots of space for walk-ins as well!

One of the better Let Us Cook For You menu’s they’ve done. Really excellent flavors and textures in every dish. Mocktails were well thought out and well executed. The best value in Halifax every single time. It honestly feels like a privilege to go to Dear Friend.

The research into the food and cocktails really shows. The different layers of flavours will blow you away! Beautiful decor and warm, welcoming and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend.

Service was not very good, my boyfriend and I had reservations and were out celebrating our anniversary. We waited 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order. Our shared starter was good but our waiter forgot to order our meal, we waited another 20 minutes to order another drink at which and still hasn’t received our meal so decided to finish our drink and leave.

An absolute must if you are a cocktail fan. We did not have any mains, but the small plates and oysters we shared were nice and flavourful.

The food was beyond excellent and the restaurant is beautiful, the only issue was it seemed a little short staffed for speed of service and the table near me was extremely rowdy, I know that is hard for the restaurant to control but it made it hard for me to hear my friend when speaking because the table near us was really rambunctious maybe a note to people in large groups to be mindful of their neighbors when they are seated could help?

Our server was excellent and checked up on us every so often to make sure we were taken care of. The beef tartare left something to be desired, also to note that although generally this dish is served with a carbohydrate to (scoop ie bread, chips, fries, etc) the business has chosen to have this as an extra cost for this dish you can opt in for. The menu does leave it out but if you’re used to this, definitely something to memo! The drinks were great. We brought new friends with us and they enjoyed their time. We would like to come back again and try their duck dish and more cocktails!

We decided to do the “let us cook for you” and it was beyond worth it! Amazing food, lots of it, and you’re able to indicate if there are certain things you do and do not like. It made our night out more than that, it made it an experience!

The tasting menu was really good. The Trifle dessert was awesome. Beef Tartare was really good. Their fine take on chicken liver and waffles was new, bold and delicious. Drinks, of course awesome.

Man, these guys always nail it with top-notch hospitality. They're managed to make anyone who comes in feel like a friend. And the bartender's choice always delivers. I love how passionate these folks are about being creative with cocktails. The passion comes through in every interaction you have here, what a stellar team.
