In the late 1800’s, Royal Street was home to a famous “curio” shop, a place where curiosities from all over the world could be had for a dollar or two. Today, the shop is no more, but the feeling of excitement and wonder still exists on Royal Street today. And so in the heart of the most premier art district in New Orleans, we’re bringing back the curiosity – reintroducing New Orleans to a circus of flavor so vibrant it makes other restaurants nearby pale in comparison.

    Downstairs is very nice and the bar is lovely. Cocktails were excellent. We sat upstairs and it isn’t as nice as downstairs. There is little ambience as it’s very very bright. They should turn down the lights a bit to create a mood. It’s like cafeteria level bright. They have a lovely balcony that overlooks Royal which is great. The food was good. My burger was delicious but fries were cold. My husband’s shrimp and salmon were excellent. Service was wonderful. Our server was attentive and polite.

    Very good food. Accommodated for a dairy allergy without a problem. Friendly and clean. Would recommend.

    Amazing food and service!! My daughter said, “I’m so glad we came here, now I some place to recommend to people!” We had the alligator poboy (tender not chewy) and the “taste of new orleans” So delicious!

    Service was awful. We waited for 45 minutes for our food. The waiter never asked us for a drink order and only checked on us two or three times. I will never come back here.

    Our server was Inattentive and left us without refills of our drinks for most of dinner. Served us our appetizer without silverware and did not bring us any until after our mains were brought and we had asked multiple times. Our food took and extremely long time, which they acknowledged. Half of the food was cold once we received it. The flavor of the food was fine, but nothing compared to the other food we have eaten in New Orleans. Overall an unpleasant experience.

    Our experience at Curio was disappointing. The food was mediocre, especially considering two nights earlier we had a wonderful experience at Gallatoire's for exactly the same price. The first course was tasty, but slow to come out, and the kitchen pacing was atrocious; they brought out the salad course at exactly the same as the appetizer course, so the salad had to sit and get warm and the croutons soggy. Then when the crawfish pasta came out it had very little crawfish in it. This was the same as my experience with Curio in the past...they seem to have an issue with putting a decent amount of protein in their main dishes. Dessert was okay, but again we experienced a large delay between finishing out main course and having our dessert served. We ended up sending back our first wine choice because of the taste. It was recommended by our server, but was a pinot noir (Meioni) that was almost as sweet as a dessert wine, not good with dinner. When she brought it out, even though I mentioned we wanted to taste it first, she went ahead and poured full pours for us both and then said, "I hope you like it" as she left before we had a chance to try it. As I said earlier, it was far too sweet, and we had to send it back. Perhaps the young lady lacks experience with serving wines in a fine dining scenario. To her credit she did get it removed from our bill with no further controversy. Overall Curio was a disappointing experience with an over $200 bill. And I must ask, what is this I've been seeing just in New Orleans restaurants about adding an extra charge to the bill for using a credit card? Who carries that much cash around? This is a thing I've only seen in New Orleans.
