I would return to the Crystal Palace in a heartbeat! Hits the balance of a gastropub excellently. The food is hearty but with a unique and tasty spin.. Spacing between tables means you know you’re not alone but you can hold a conversation… cozy… great beer and the staff are young, friendly and honest. A great evening

The staff were super attentive, friendly and helpful - we came with a large amount of bags and they very kindly cleared a space in the restaurant for us to fit them into. The food was great, the setting is beautiful and we can't wait to come back. Thanks team Crystal Palace!

This place is such a disappointment. I really do t want to leave a bad review but this is the only way things might change. Half the menu was unavailable. The service was slow. Tables were dirty outside. This is NOT a gastro pub so dont bother going if that’s what you are after. Chicken snitzel came with a pathetic wilted side of green leaves. Honestly my 14 year old son would have done a better job. The chicken was straight from the freezer. Pre cooked. Come on guys, this is such a great location. Sort out the chef and sort out the service and people will come. I took 3 old friends who all drove an hour to meet up and I was embarrassed at having chosen this venue.

So disappointing. 9 people booked. Early table as one child in the party.(6pm). No table service so went to order food at the bar. 6 of the 9 dishes we ordered were not available. Then when we asked, even more dishes on the menu were just not available. The reason? "We've been busy"!! Bar staff were just not bothered saying " It's not our fault" I can only assume nothing would be available to those who had tables booked at 7pm, 7:30 & 7:45pm! Overall felt very disappointed. It was a pre planned family birthday meal. We left and ate elsewhere. Not recommended for food.

We waited for an hour for our starters. When the main courses eventually came they were very greasy, I had the fish finger sandwich which was swimming with grease and almost inedible. The children’s chicken was spicy with a strange dip which I can’t see any child liking. My other children had Mac & cheese from the children’s menu which was so small it was eaten in about three spoonfuls. First and last visit, we definitely won’t be returning.

High noise level and restaurant was dirty. We had to kick crusts out from under our chair before sitting down as well as crumbs off the seat. Menu was okay and food was okay but a garnish would have been nice on mains

This was my second visit in two weeks. The steak sandwiches are incredible- I’m sure the other food is too, but I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to tear myself away from that sandwich! Came here for lunch after a 10 mile walk and it was so good that I planned my next walking trip around coming here for lunch 👌

My ratings for this occasion are all poor because it actually never materialised, so any judgement would be irrelevant. I had a reservation booked for 8.45pm on Tuesday 2nd April, but at 6pm the same day, the restaurant phoned me saying they had cancelled it because of 'stock issues'. One can only assume from this that they had absolutely no food at all, because they didn't mention any particular items they'd run out of and asked no questions about what we might like from the menu that they did have in stock for us to choose from. Or, one might assume, probably more correctly, that the restaurant was paricularly quiet that evening and they preferred to shut early and go home. We were not offered any alternative booking. On account of all this, I don't really inderstand why I'm being asked to review a visit that the restaurant itself cancelled!

The Crystal Palace has an enviable spot beside the canal and tow path . Outdoor and indoor seating with friendly staff. Only downside is no specific parking area so a walk from town or car parks unles you strike lucky alongside pub.
