Nested in Uphams Corner, Dorchester, we're a lively and intimate 30-seat restaurant serving brunch on the weekend and dinner at night with a full bar and outdoor patio. Our food is a celebration of the ingredients and flavors of the African diaspora connected from Asia to the Americas — global comfort food. We are proudly Black-owned, immigrant-owned, and women-owned. We believe that food is a vital aspect of community building and we envision a place that is actively engaged in highlighting the culture, art, and history of our community.

- Patio dining: patio reservations are weather-dependent and may be canceled due to inclement weather. Our patios are partially covered protecting from light to moderate rain and light wind.

- Timing: dinner's last seating is at 8:45pm and brunch's last seating is at 1:30pm. Your table is reserved for 90 mins for parties of 1-5 guests and 2 hrs for parties of 6+ guests.

Le menu multiculturel de cet établissement de Dorchester est sans équivalent dans la région, ce qui lui a valu d'obtenir cinq étoiles dans le Boston Globe et d'être désigné par le Boston Magazine comme le « meilleur nouveau restaurant » en 2023. Le restaurant, dirigé par Biplaw Rai, gérant associé, et Kwasi Kwaa, chef associé, est un hommage à la richesse de la contribution des immigré·e·s à ce pays. Les plats s'inspirent de saveurs et de produits propres à la diaspora africaine, comme le bœuf suya aux oignons caramélisés à la façon ouest-africaine ou le kelewele, une spécialité ghanéenne à base de bananes plantain relevées aux épices. Participez aux réjouissances dans la salle lumineuse et spacieuse ou dans le patio à la végétation luxuriante situé à l'arrière de l'établissement, tout cela dans ce qui fut jadis une station-service historique à Upham's Corner.

    The staff made the dining experience a special occasion. Warm, welcoming, engaging. Their short but well curated wine list offered great choice. Two excellent vegetarian mains. Both outside and inside spaces are nice. I would go for outside next time.

    This is a hard review to write, and it’s the first review I’ve done in quite a while , but I just have to be honest and get this off of our chests. For a meal that cost $176 out the door - this was NOT IT. Probably the biggest let down as far as food goes in the greater Boston area for me. All I had heard were accolades and praise on social media and word of mouth for this place. I’m hoping they were having an off night, but it’s going to be hard to convince myself or anyone else in my circle to want to return again. The appetizer/small plates were alright, and that was probably the highlight of the meal. From comically small water and cocktail glasses that we started with to being told constantly that we had only an hour and a half window to dine- the meal started off awkward and disjointed as the general manager and server repeated an off-putting blurb that usually would be totally fine and respectable but just seemed rude. It was the mostly empty restaurant, and the clustering of all of the guests to one side and squishing us all together that just did not make sense. The biggest red flag and honestly, truly, a let down, were the mains- the Yuca fries straight up tasted freezer burnt, and they were cold. They tasted like they had sat in a freezer for months and were attempted to be fried, they were barely chewable. I love Yuca, so this was a disappointment- the short rib was just… alright. It was middle of the road, nothing fantastic. None of the flavors were what we had read about in reviews, we were consistently surprised and baffled throughout the meals. We were hoping the desserts were going to redeem everything, we were so gravely mistaken. The ice cream was terrible, the chunks of frozen mango and the freezer burnt ice cream were actually gross? The blue corn cake was hard as a rock and dry as a desert. Again, I understand this is a small business and person of color owned business that I was so excited to support but this missed the mark.

    Our first visit to Comfort Kitchen and we were so looking forward to our brunch. We were seated on the back patio which is very nice. Our waiter was personable, but mumbled and was hard to understand. My husband ordered coffee and a mimosa, I started with an oat latte. His coffee and drink came quickly, but the cream and sugar had already been put in the coffee which was strange. It was like being at Dunkin Donuts. My latte arrived about 10 minutes later. I asked for some sugar and the waiter said they were out of packets but he could put it in for me. Um, no. Please bring me sugar. He forgot. My husband went inside to find someone. After about 10 more minutes, sugar finally arrived. By then my latte was cold. Not okay. Food was good, nothing special. I had the shrimp and grits. The food was just lukewarm and not very flavorful. My husband had the eggs and hash which he enjoyed. We finally asked for the check and although we were clearly done with our meals, the waiter left our dirty plates on the table. Kind of a pet peeve of mine. Was surprised that they charged my husband for a second cup of coffee. No refills? For what we ate/drank, the bill was high and the service was lacking. Not sure we'll be back.

    We went for brunch and the food and drinks was delicious, service was genuine, ambiance was great. Highly recommend.

    One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. From the food, to the service to the ambiance, just phenomenal all around with a great energy. Can’t wait to get back!

    Comfort Kitchen started as a pop-up in Jamaica Plain. It was close to home. The menu was unusual. So we tried it and we fell in love. The food is amazing. The guiding forces behind the food are diverse, wonderfully competent, and committed to the food of the African diaspora. They've grown up since then. The menu is more expansive and more carefully explained. Three of us shared the best okra I've ever had, a big salad, and the spicy little jackfruit sliders. Then the other two had the fish curry, about which they raved. I had the truly remarkable mushrooms with spinach dumplings, small potatoes and pureed cassava. Fabulous. The wine we loved was a 2013 Pinot not on the menu suggested by our server. Comfort Kitchen is warm and welcoming. The food is amazing. Plan ahead because every table was full when we visited, on a reservation made three weeks in advance.

    service was slow, food and drinks weee amazing. spacing of entrees was very poorly done. asked server for two more minutes, came back in 10, ordered everything together and it was 20 before we got okra, then 20 minutes before we got our second app the shoyu beef snack and then while we weee eating this, two minutes later our entrees came. then at the end of meal, took forever to get the check, then another ten minutes to bring us the signature bill. an amazing restaurant but a few kinks to work out.
