I probably shouldn't say this, but dinner here was a much better experience than we had, clearly erroneously, expected. Colson's is the restaurant within the Hotel Indigo in Exeter. We had only previously eaten in the breakfast area and so were thinking the rest of the restaurant would be similarly pleasant but functional. How wrong we were. Breakfast was average but at least cooked fresh to order rather than the usual tired buffet in many hotels these days. Dinner, however, was a revelation. The "dinner" area of the restaurant is quite secluded with a very pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. The menu is limited (no bad thing) but interesting and the food was perfectly cooked and well presented. Service was delightful; friendly and efficient. If I have a criticism it is that the wine list, whilst excellent and comprehensive (I love the "bin end" concept) offered only a few choices for those with a lower wine budget. Overall though, a most enjoyable experience which we fully intend to repeat.

Hotel and staff lovely but food was expensive for what it is and a big service charge on top I’ve had better food at weatherspoons

It’s very nice restaurant, makes you feel very comfortable, by the decor of the place. Service was lovely, very welcoming and attentive. Food delicious, nicely presented and in good portions.

Just the right level of service. Attentive without being intrusive. Food was attractively presented and well cooked. I was by myself so I booked a table for 18:30 as I knew it would be a quiet time and I was not rushed.

Lovely place to eat and really enjoyed the food! The restaurant felt a little cold as the doors to the entrance were constantly opening and closing and you felt the draft come right into the area we were sitting in. We could see the doors from our table. Also, the red wine list could be improved. Felt the options weren't particularly good by the glass. Otherwise, really enjoyed our meal :)

Service was friendly and attentive, restaurant was busy but not overcrowded. Scotch egg starter was very good, both mains were salty, the clam chowder especially so. Wine was fine...all over the experience was fine, but felt a little pricey for 'fine'.

Had very high hopes on arrival, unfortunately let down by ambience and slow service. Might stick to the bar next time
