Having spent years supplying London’s top restaurants through their separate wine businesses, Joe Haynes and Benedict Butterworth have joined forces with Tom Hurst, who has worked at Brawn, The Marksman, Levan, and most recently as Head Chef at Lasdun, to launch the trio’s first restaurant together.

Located in a Grade II listed building on Cloth Fair, Cloth Restaurant is part of a historic row of buildings in the City of London that survived the Great Fire of 1666. Down this atmospheric alley opposite St Bartholomew church, Cloth is taking over a double fronted corner site that’s beneath the former home of poet John Betjeman and next door to the two oldest residential buildings in London.

Inside, low ceilings, wood floorboards with antique wall lights and artwork create a cosy, intimate atmosphere, while marble tables, long dark wood banquettes, antique crockery and cutlery will create the feel of a classic bistro.

A really special meal, with the stand-out dishes being the starter of puntarelle alla Romana and the main of the curried skate wing. We were asked three times by three different waiters during our first courses if everything was okay, which was a little silly. And the spot we had in the restaurant felt a little like a thoroughfare. But neither of these points blemished what was a fabulous evening of exceptional food and drink, attentive and friendly service, and a lovely atmosphere. Thank you.

Great food in lovely old building Restaurant is always busy so service can be patchy. Wine overpriced

These guys nail it every time. This is the perfect place for a date, catch up with friends or to bring colleagues/clients. The atmosphere is incredible and the layout is perfect - providing different pockets which make for a really intimate setting. I have been several times and am always so pleasantly surprised by new menu items alongside the restaurant favourites! On top of all that the staff are lovely and so personable. I would recommend Cloth to anyone!

Great ambience and location but as people who go to all the highly rated London restaurants we felt that the food was very good but portion sizes were smaller than a comparable restaurant and service was fairly slow with gaps between courses and at times felt a bit chaotic.

We had a really great time with attention to detail, delicious food and great service! We loved the candlelit ambience and the vintage mismatched crockery and cutlery. Our food was stunning, especially the crab agnolloti, game terrine and our bread with pickled vegetables. But the stand out part of the night was the phenomenal wine. We had a 2000 bottle of Pouilly Fume that was so complex! We weren't rushed and could just enjoy ourselves. Thank you.

An ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL RESTAURANT with great atmosphere, knowledgeable & incredibly efficient staff. Our 4th visit and every time it’s a memorable evening. The menu is always changing and always delicious - wine is better than anywhere I’ve been. Thoroughly recommend this very special restaurant .

Lovely “olde worlde” atmosphere. Very Dickensian. Great food and an impressive wine list. We will definitely be back.
