Having spent years supplying London’s top restaurants through their separate wine businesses, Joe Haynes and Benedict Butterworth have joined forces with Tom Hurst, who has worked at Brawn, The Marksman, Levan, and most recently as Head Chef at Lasdun, to launch the trio’s first restaurant together.

Located in a Grade II listed building on Cloth Fair, Cloth Restaurant is part of a historic row of buildings in the City of London that survived the Great Fire of 1666. Down this atmospheric alley opposite St Bartholomew church, Cloth is taking over a double fronted corner site that’s beneath the former home of poet John Betjeman and next door to the two oldest residential buildings in London.

Inside, low ceilings, wood floorboards with antique wall lights and artwork create a cosy, intimate atmosphere, while marble tables, long dark wood banquettes, antique crockery and cutlery will create the feel of a classic bistro.

Very cosy and romantic place. Great for a special date. Would have loved to see more desert options though.

Great food and really well cooked. Friendly and excellent service. I did have a sense of deja vue…. it seemed a bit like the Marksman had been transplanted to Smithfield

It's the perfect place for a restaurant, elegant, old fashioned in a very cool way, beautiful surroundings, in the loveliest corner of London. Most tables were set up for two couples, that says something about the sort of place. The space is the best, you will impress anyone you invite here. The food is very good but my main dish (Cod) was too salty as were the mushrooms I tasted from my partner's dish. The chef must be from Spain? But don't let that give you any doubt, go anyway. It's a great experience in a humble and sophisticated kind of way. And coming out in a lane next to St Bartholomew the Great is the best ending. I did not pay, but I think the prices are fair.

Had the prix fixe menu which was great value for money and thoroughly enjoyable. Lovely intimate atmosphere and will definitely be back in the evening soon

A really special meal, with the stand-out dishes being the starter of puntarelle alla Romana and the main of the curried skate wing. We were asked three times by three different waiters during our first courses if everything was okay, which was a little silly. And the spot we had in the restaurant felt a little like a thoroughfare. But neither of these points blemished what was a fabulous evening of exceptional food and drink, attentive and friendly service, and a lovely atmosphere. Thank you.

Great food in lovely old building Restaurant is always busy so service can be patchy. Wine overpriced

These guys nail it every time. This is the perfect place for a date, catch up with friends or to bring colleagues/clients. The atmosphere is incredible and the layout is perfect - providing different pockets which make for a really intimate setting. I have been several times and am always so pleasantly surprised by new menu items alongside the restaurant favourites! On top of all that the staff are lovely and so personable. I would recommend Cloth to anyone!
