Having spent years supplying London’s top restaurants through their separate wine businesses, Joe Haynes and Benedict Butterworth have joined forces with Tom Hurst, who has worked at Brawn, The Marksman, Levan, and most recently as Head Chef at Lasdun, to launch the trio’s first restaurant together.

Located in a Grade II listed building on Cloth Fair, Cloth Restaurant is part of a historic row of buildings in the City of London that survived the Great Fire of 1666. Down this atmospheric alley opposite St Bartholomew church, Cloth is taking over a double fronted corner site that’s beneath the former home of poet John Betjeman and next door to the two oldest residential buildings in London.

Inside, low ceilings, wood floorboards with antique wall lights and artwork create a cosy, intimate atmosphere, while marble tables, long dark wood banquettes, antique crockery and cutlery will create the feel of a classic bistro.

Excellent food, lovely interior design and service. The only negative comment would be that it can get quite loud. We will be back!

There was only one choice for each course of the set menu, but the food was both interesting and very good. We liked the house wines very much. We also loved the ambience. It did get a bit loud and it would be difficult to hear if you were part of a group of more than 4. We will definitely return.

I was delighted by this little jewel around by Smithfield market . Saw it reviewed by Grace Dent recently and discovered it was open on Monday so reserved for a meal with my son and his wife before they returned to HK post their wedding last week. It didn’t disappoint. Everything was great and we had a lovely final evening together Thank you

We had a really excellent first dinner at Cloth. It's a lovely restaurant and the food and staff are faultless. The only downside was one very drunk and loud guest on the table next to us. Fortunately, he eventually left and then the evening was perfect!

The food was really good, I wasn’t sure what to expect but I loved everything we ordered. The staff were lovely - competent, knowledgeable and friendly. Our meal with wine and apre/post drinks was very good value, especially with current London prices being so high. The only small issue was the heat, the restaurant really wasn’t set up to handle the weather and the aircon unit either wasn’t working or wasn’t able to handle the room size. We will definitely go back.

My experience at this restaurant was particularly enhanced by the teamwork that went into staff service. A young and cheerful brigade for whom nothing seemed too much trouble. The set lunch is a bargain. Can't wait to go again.

A great meal, and staff were perfect; but I'm afaid it was excessively noisy. We found it difficult to talk to each other, even though we were sitting side by side and the table was slightly away from the others next to the open door. I would recommend the restaurant but have to mention how loud it is!
