Where we invite you to journey into a place of both intimacy and companionship
Our concept is drawn from our name. The word “cloak” implies secrecy, inspiring our concept of a social sphere humming beneath the levels of ordinary life. “Petal” alludes to the Japanese tradition of “hanami,” when family and friends gather under blooming cherry blossoms to savor food, drinks and fellowship.
Enter our space and travel underground to décor reminiscent of an abandoned Tokyo subway, a stratum of society all its own, an artist’s dream. Cross the threshold into a mystically transformed Japanese social dining lounge which appears to be an outdoor seating area, similar to a waiting platform. Sit beneath a trellis of draping vines and teardrop lights in the intimate space we’ve thoughtfully created, and feast on authentic Japanese sushi, appetizers, small plates and drinks with family and friends.

Poor service, our water was filled once within the 2-3 hours of our time there. Food took substantially longer to come out - we got our mains before apps and just ended up cancelling a few dishes. Extremely difficult to have a conversation as well. Would not recommend

Nice dinner at one of the best sushi spot in Little Italy. The best part of this place are ambience, music and drinks closely followed by sushi. I only wish they have a little bit better variety on the menu. The restaurant is very beautiful decorated with Sakura trees like bar and ceilings. They play hip hop music which makes it just awesome. We ordered several drinks like leeches beachy and summer slide mocktail. They were great. We also had octopus and two specialty rolls. All of those dishes were Gluten free modified which is absolutely great if you go gluten free. Overall great experience and we def be back there soon.

Great service and food! It was my birthday and we told them but they charged us for the crème brûlée and they didn’t put on a birthday song for me but they did for the other people who shared the same birthday so I was a bit weirded out but overall still a great time!

Fun and unique experience. The fried rice with pork belly was a delicious appetizer. Wish we could have tried more, but we knew our eyes were already bigger than our stomaches. The sushi was really good. I wish I would’ve asked what their “Michelin” plate was for and been able to try that. We intentionally chose rolls that seemed new and different; we were not disappointed and that’s what was delivered. The flavors were complex and exciting. Go for the vibe and leave full.

Everything was great except the tables!!!! I selected standard table, but I was sat at very low like lounge table, the table was way below our knees and make it very uncomfortable to eat. The high tops would have been much more comfortable! I should have asked to be moved, but it was late and I didn’t want to wait. Our waitress was very sweet. The rolls were excellent and the specialty sashimi was delicious. Our waters were constantly refilled. The decor was pretty, but it was so loud we could barely hear each other. Not the best for an anniversary dinner. I would definitely go back but SIT AT THE HIGHTOP TABLE!!

Everything about this place was great. The music was the good hip hop that reminds you of the good days when you’d go dancing and your back wouldn’t hurt. None of the modern day trash. The wings were some of the best I’ve ever had. The sushi was great. Drinks were refreshing. The vibe was immaculate. Didn’t have to wait long for food or drinks. One of my favorite restaurants that I’ve been to in a while

We had a great time at Cloak & Petal. Had our last family meal here before dropping our daughter at SDSU. The whole family enjoyed the restaurant, food, ambience & service.
