We have dined here in the past & it was fantastic. However, we came here for brunch on a Sunday morning with maybe one other table. My husband & I both got the omelet which was maybe luke warm. My husband asked if he could add bacon & they said no but could put it on the side. That makes me believe these omelets were already pre-made and slightly heated up when served. For how expensive our breakfast was, it was very subpar. As I said, we had dined her in the past for dinner and it was delicious so I’m not sure what happened.

I had the lamb chop special with crispy polenta. Polenta was great, lamb chops overcooked and lukewarm!

Exquisite food! I live out of state and never catch a res in time. So glad I finally remembered to book in advance. Took my mom and everything from the goat cheese wontons to the beef cheeks Bourgogne was amazing! Barrel aged sazerac mixed to perfection. And our server, Eddy, made the experience. Kind, attentive, knowledgeable, perfect timing, checked in appropriately but never overbearing. Thanks for a great night Chives!

We had a very good dining experience with the quality and preparation of the food and the fine level of service. Only one negative marred the experience a bit. The dessert menu listed a “seasonal fruit tart”. What was served was a chocolate banana cream tart. There were no other fruits in the tart. I had expected perhaps blueberries and/or peaches and plums (those two are particularly in season at the moment). Under no circumstances is a banana considered a “seasonal fruit”. I questioned our waiter if this was the correct tart as there were no seasonal fruits and he replied that was the fruit tart. He offered me another dessert, which I chose the crème brûlée. He said he wouldn’t charge for that choice. I really don’t like banana cream pie, so when he offered to box that to take out, I declined. The bill showed a $10 charge for the one tiny bite I’d taken from the banana cream tart instead of the $6 charge for the crème brûlée which I ended up eating.

Always a good experience. Chives is our favorite go to place in DC. We are local and bring all of our guests to Chives. The food and service are outstanding. Don’t forget dessert They are a delight to the eye as well as the taste buds. Wait staff is knowledgeable and gracious. Drinks are well made. It is fun to dine outside with a view of the lake. Inside is simple yet cozy. The place is small so get a reservation before you go.
