Le dernier de son genre près de la rue 42nd Street, le restaurant Chez Josephine est un petit bijou de quartier fondé en 1986 par Jean-Claude Baker comme un hommage à la légendaire Joséphine Baker. Ce bistrot parisien propose des concerts de piano et un menu alléchant dans un cadre intime avec des murs de velours rouge, une profusion de lustres et un plafond bleu étain. Vous serez reçu chaleureusement comme si vous étiez de la famille, que vous veniez avant ou après un spectacle, pour un dîner tranquille entre les deux ou pour prendre un verre au bar de zinc. We love the restaurant and we’ve been there many times. We don’t live in New York anymore, but every time we come to Theatre, we come to eat at Josephine. The food, the ambience the service was perfect.

The pianist was excellent but a bit loud. We have old people ears so conversation was a bit difficult. The food was also excellent. The lobster cassoulet was inventive and excellent. I’d have it again. The coffee was terrible. Don’t know if it was NYC style but to me it was end of the day burnt. It was not Italian style coffee. I’ve spent considerable amounts of time in Italy and coffee is excellent. I liked the restaurant.

Chez Josephine is a charming French restaurant that has long intrigued me. Finally, after years of walking by, I had the opportunity to dine there. The interior is beautifully decorated, evoking the glamorous Parisian atmosphere of Josephine Baker's era. French Onion soup - rich and flavorful, though a bit sweeter than I expected. The cheese was perfectly melted and formed a delicious, crispy top. Grilled Octopus - full of flavor, though I found it slightly chewy. Duck a l'Orange - cooked to perfection and had a delightful balance of sweet and savory flavors. Seafood Casserole - a bit of a disappointment. While it was tasty, it was more like a soup than a casserole, and the seafood was slightly overcooked. The service was impeccable. Our servers, Ulises, Mayra, and Ariel, were attentive and knowledgeable, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, Chez Josephine is a delightful restaurant that captures the essence of Parisian cuisine. While there were a few minor hiccups, the overall experience was enjoyable, and I would definitely recommend it to others.

This was another amazing meal at Chez Josephine. A first time for lunch and they had a price fixed menu that one person had an enjoyed very much. I had the Nicoisse Salad which was delicious. Our other friend had the crab cake sandwich. We were all very pleased with our meal and topped it off with cappuccinos. We are looking forward to returning there soon once again.

Very elegant and lovely place. The food was wonderful the service outstanding. Except - why does Open Table allow one to say that it's a special occasion only to have that occasion ignored completely by the restaurant? The birthday dinner was wonderful except the restaurant did nothing about the birthday - not a single word. I find that off-putting. Other than that, it was quite wonderful.

The owner prefers groups. I had a reservation and he sat me in the back of the restaurant. I couldn’t see the performers.

I have yet to have anything less than a perfect meal at Chez Josephine, and the atmosphere is always ideal for a quiet dinner, either with a romantic partner or with close friends.
