The Chequers Inn, which is owned and run by the Holmes family, is a traditional rural pub situated in the heart of the Isle of Wight within the beautiful countryside. Our pub is the perfect place to eat, sleep and drink on the Isle of Wight, and also perfect for just stopping by for a pint of traditional local ale.

Our kitchen's aim is to provide fantastic fresh tasty food created with as much local produce as possible, with an elegant and relaxed atmosphere.

Wonderful food and really great staff. The carvery Was really first class everything was piping hot as it should be. Will certainly be going again.

I was very disappointed that on my 65th Birthday I opted to book a table for 6 for lunch on July 28th. The table was inside and given the wonderful sunny day we asked for a table outside. Until then the young waiter was clutching x6 menus, kids menus and a wine list. He pointed us to the outside area near the playground. We were advised that because we were outside then we had to go to the bar and order our drinks. As the person who had booked the table 2 weeks earlier I went to the Bar to ask if I could hand over my credit card in order to run a "tab" and pay for the drinks and meals at the end of our meal. The less that helpful curly haired waitress said no because "we might run off without paying - although she assured me that I did not look the type - perhaps my great age and that of my husband were visible clues. I said I was unhappy and she asked if I wanted to speak to the Manager and I said Yes please. The Manager appeared and said that it was against the law for a "tab" to be run by a paying guest. I asked which law was it UK or EU because no such law exists! Clearly it is company policy not a legal matter. This really put a downside on my special Birthday Family Lunch. In the end we ended up spending in excess of £300 so we clearly were not "dine & dash" guests!!!! The only saving grace was a lovely waitress called Mia/Maya who was exemplary in her helpful and can do attitude. Perhaps she could train some of the other staff so they could improve their customer service. As an Islander and a previous visitor/overnight stay guest on a number of occassions which we really enjoyed I was so very disappointed and will not be going back to The Chequers anytime soon:-(

Our meal at the chequers was poor, I had bangers and mash and the portion size was a joke, my fiancée had lasagne which was microwaved and raw, portion sizes are a joke for the money, over priced and not worth the money.

Very friendly, helpful and efficient staff. Amazing Sunday carvery and wonderful outdoor play area for our grandchildren including toddlers play area.

We booked in for a late lunch. It is a large dining area and there was only one other table dining. An hour later and the place was buzzing! It’s an extensive menu that really has something for everyone. All of our meals were delicious: well cooked and presented. We only had the one course, due to the time. Service was efficient and friendly. Maybe they were slightly understaffed as I had to go and find someone to take our order and again to pay, but that’s a minor quibble. Our bill, including drinks, for the three of us was just under £70, which I thought was quite reasonable.

Staff pleasant and helpful. Roast dinner good…tender meat and good roast potatoes. Pub is in lovely part of Isle of Wight with lovely walks nearby.
