I was a little apprehensive about my booking after reading some of the reviews, but I really enjoyed my meal. The flavors are more subtle, compared to most western cuisines, but that is the beauty of Japanese cooking. The lightest dish was the soup that had a very light fish broth with shrimp balls, which was probably my favorite. I loved that I had to concentrate a little on what I was consuming. The only complaint I would have is that I wish the rice had been served with the miso salmon, as I found the fish a little salty. I would have loved to cut it with the mushroom rice dish, which did feel a little bland on its own, but maybe it served as a palate cleanser? There was a pho/tequila drink cocktail that I found great, and really enjoyed having star anise in alcohol. There were also quite a number of mocktail options on the menu. With the interior itself, our seating was cramped into one section of the restaurant so it did feel like I was dining with four other people. The tables had barely any space to squeeze a person through, and the chairs were this bamboo rattan material that felt flimsy. The lighting was also a little too red, so I hope Brick & Mortar will change it to a more soft, neutral color.

This is a great idea and the menu was excellent. My only complaint was the ambience. There were only 20 guests so a communal table would have made for a more social experience.

Food was great and sever was nice. I enjoyed very much her imagination and skill to prepare Kaiseki. I like to reccomend any one loving Japanese food to come this real Kaiseki to experience it as this is only the opportunity in Atlanta. Only the negative side was there was no Japanese sake that build best pairing with Kaiseki and green tea.

Overall, I was looking forward to trying this Japanese 6-course experience at Brick and Mortar. However, it ended on a lackluster note. The service team at the restaurant was extremely attentive and for that I’d come back to dine at “Brick & Mortar” for a non-Cheffrey meal. Unfortunately the rest of my review doesn’t hold up to that standard. The 6-course meal ($80) included very small portions of tapas-style dishes that didn’t seem to have an order of operations or flow. (A menu was provided for reference but the service team just dropped dishes without any kind of course explanation). The dishes, overall, were very simple with little creativity, color, or excitement. One dish was simple sticky rice and edamame-that’s it. Lastly, the beverage menu was overpriced and also nothing special, and no drinks or palate cleansers, aside from water, were included in the tasting price. Normally I wouldn’t think twice about drinks being a add-on to a prefix menu, but due to the small portions of what seemed to be less expensive items to prepare, a drink would have been a thoughtful inclusion. Overall, aside from attentive service, I’d give this a 3-star review and hope this program can make adjustments for the future - as the concept has potential.

Enjoyed the service but wasn’t a big fan of a few of the dishes - expected them to be more imaginative and nuanced re: the flavors.
