Chapman’s Seafood Restaurant in Canterbury is located in the historic St. Dunstan’s area – a stone’s throw from the Westgate Towers Museum and Gardens and a two-minute stroll from Canterbury West train station. We offer an informal, welcoming atmosphere where good food and friendly customer service is standard, and our kitchen serves only the finest fresh fish sourced from the local area.

Here at Chapmans we offer a wide menu starting our day with the breakfast menu to a set lunch menu and a la carte dinner menu.

    Chapmans overall was a bit of a disappointment. Before the review continues, none of this relates directly to the waiting staff who worked their way around as best they could. Firstly we were sat upstairs which was deviod of atmosphere even though there was three tables available downstairs - this was ok as our guest was hard of hearing however it did feel we were missed. The table we sat on was extremely wobbly and we had to use our napkins to level the table. This was observed by our waiter but no further napkins came our way until we asked. We ordered a bottle of wine and after waiting 10 minutes were told the wine was out of stock. We ordered a second bottle and again 15 minutes later we were told this was also out of stock but they were supplying us with another bottle. Not sure why they have a wine list! The Table sharing platter was good but we had to ask for plates! Anchovies were really nice and so was the shrimp. Our guest loves scallops and decided to have the starter scallops with sides for main. She was told there would be only 3, but wrongly assuming they would be of a decent size, said that was ok. The scallops cannot be described as anything other than small/medium in size and considering they were £15, thought this was a bit mean. All of our meals were nice, hake, sea bass and the monkfish wellington were decent without being outstanding. As the driver of the group, I was drinking water and the waiter as we ordered our mains and when we received our mains, asked for a top up of water which then arrived after we had finished. This meant I are my main course without a drink and as no staff were ever upstairs to ask, I was not prepared to leave the table to find someone. Dessert was again, ok but not anything memorable. The waiting staff was always apologetic for delays, pointing out that there were only 2 waiting staff and they were very busy, so obviously more a management issue. Would we go back - probably not - there are better places!

    Wonderful meal. The waitress was working on her own and did an amazing job. Deserves a pay rise!

    As ever, totally delicious. Ambience a struggle. We were the only table for a long while. I don’t understand why it’s not full morning noon and night. It’s a wonderful place.

    Fantastic service, both ladies were polite and friendly and very attentive. The food was amazing, everything so fresh, the best mussels I have ever had and tender sea bass with crispy skin. Highly recommend x

    The service provided by the only waitress on duty was very good. The overall experience is only 4 stars because 2 menu items (Tuna Tartar and Confit Trout) were unavailable and both of these were requested by one of our party. We also feel that £4 per oyster is a ridiculous price and prevented us from ordering them in addition to what we did order. The celebration ice cream boards for my wife’s birthday and our anniversary were a very nice touch. So in summary we had a very nice meal with good service but feel the management need to review the staffing levels and ensure that all menu items are available. After all the menu isn’t very extensive (not an issue) so unavailability of items limits the choices. Regards, Kevin

    Wow what an amazing place, food was outstanding, beautifully presented and absolutely divine, the monkfish wellington was a delight and my wife had the lobster which again was stunning. Can’t wait to return.

    Fantastic food served with a smile. Would definitely recommend the Tiger Prawns with Goan Curry (special starter) and will be having the Goan Curry main next time as the curry sauce was amazing!
