COOKING WITH FIRE, SOUTH TEXAS STYLE Carriqui celebrates the South Texas tradition of drawing flavor from fire. Inspired by the flight path of our namesake bird, our menus feature regional favorites from the Rio Grande Valley, Texas coast, and the Hill Country. Nearly every dish is touched by the glowing embers of our custom-forged pits, smoker, or grill, all fueled by native wood. Join us for this one-night-only event to kickoff "Pueblos del Maíz" - a celebration that pays homage to the vital role "maíz", or corn, has played in San Antonio's 300+ years of culinary heritage. San Antonio UNESCO Chef Ambassadors, including Chef Jaime Gonzalez of Carriqui, will showcase the diverse flavors of maíz by preparing small bites inspired by UTSA’s Special Collections cookbooks. This reception style experience will also feature maíz inspired signature cocktails and tastings of maíz derived spirits. A display of rare cookbooks will be available for viewing, provided by UTSA’s Special Collections. Thursday October 10, 2024 6:00-8:00pm

Went for my best friends birthday as she’d been wanting to try it. Boy were we blown away. Reservation was easy to make. Special requests were taken to heart she had a birthday card waiting for her signed by everyone on staff (she loved it). Gretchen the hostess was so kind and helped me 45 minutes before the reservation time set up balloons and gifts at a table of my choosing. The drinks were fantastic strawberry and original margaritas were a hit at the table. The food was delicious. Enchiladas were flavorful and the rice and beans were so good. The brisket plate was top notch had to make two brisket tacos because of it. The churros and homemade vanilla ice cream was phenomenal plus the thick chocolate they have on the side to dip it’s everything you need to end the night. My friend loved her birthday dinner and I cannot thank Carriqui and their wonderful team enough for the experience.

The food was delicious and our waitress was prompt and courteous. Our party of 4 was first time visiting & we were very impressed.

The food was good but the selection could have been more varied with other options that offered salads, potatoes, just not than what you can get at any Tex mex restaurant. It really felt like I was in store for an impressive array of food selections. But it fell short.

The new lunch menu is very nice. Be careful with the salsa that comes with the new crispy tacos it super spicy. The new Sprouts and Cauliflower is a nice new touch. I would love to see more option on diet drinks. Maybe Coke Zero Sugar or even a Sprite Zero Sugar something more than boring old diet coke.

Our visit and supper at Carriqui was amazing and enjoyable in every way. First, and most importantly, we experienced the beautiful hospitality of the staff. All were very proud of this elegantly restored building and eager to make us feel very welcome. Secondly, the food -- absolutely superb. For starters we had the corn cakes. Made from a recipe borrowed from General Manager Jaime Gonzalez' mother, they were sweet and bursting with flavor. For entrees, I had the brisket, tender enough to cut with a fork and delightfully flavored with a mole-inspired sauce. Kay had the Ponchartrain-dressed fish. She did share a bite -- beautifully done and very tender. We had to skip dessert -- the meal was more than enough. We did have their signature drinks at the bar before dinner -- beautifully done! SUMMARY: Exquisite restaurant. Wonderful food. Amazing, old-style hospitality to make you feel welcome and very much at home. And I should add -- very reasonable prices. We are already booked in for a return visit!

Our experience started well with a great introduction by our server followed up by a wonderful cocktail and very tasty and refreshing blackened fish tacos. The restaurant was bright and fresh with good food and good service. I'll definitely come back.
