Carmel transports the energy, culture, and flavor of the renowned outdoor marketplace “Shuk HaCarmel” to Melrose Avenue, in the heart of LA’s food scene.

Using some of the oldest techniques in the world— a wood-burning oven, an open flame grill— chef Asaf Maoz interprets ancient Levantine cooking traditions through a modern lens.

Dishes showcase the best of the season: farmer’s market produce, sustainably-sourced meats and seafood, all prepared with the global culinary influence of the Tel Aviv shuk. Breads are baked in-house, including a 72-hour fermented Moroccan Frena, baked to order in the wood-fire oven.

This was my second visit to this great restaurant. If you are not only a fan of mediterranean food, but great food in general; do yourself a favor and give Carmel a visit. The food is excellent, the staff are friendly and the staff and vibe are cool. The flavors took me back to my visit to Tel Aviv, and I can't wait for my next visit to Carmel.

What an experience! This restaurant has nailed: checking in, staff are friendly and professional, clean, efficient, food preparation and delivery to table is perfect timing, and lastly the food and drinks - DELICIOUS! I don’t typically feel compelled to leave a review, but after dining in I told my partner that I’ll be dreaming about that bread and will be coming back again asap !

Brilliant food with excellent, friendly attentive service. One of the best meals we’ve had in LA in a long time. EXCELLENT. We’ll be back soon again and hope to come back often.

Amazing food and service. The space is decorated minimally but has a great vibe. Waitress was very attentive and the food came out QUICK!

Pretty outstanding! The food was excellent - updated twists on classic Israeli food, some with unexpected proteins. Service was solid, ambience was fun and pleasant (if a little loud for me) but overall will be back!

I really like how much flavor that each dish has. The Morocco bread was amazingly good that we couldn’t stop eating that with the spicy platter. We also enjoyed the hangover steak kabab as well ad the prawns. Highly recommend!
