Food was amazing as always, but service was very poor. Our server disappeared after our apps, we had a runner deliver our food and never had a server or anyone come to check on us, we would’ve ordered a few more rounds of drinks, we then sat with all our extra food in front of us after we finished for almost 45 minutes before having to go to the front and ask for a bill. Wasn’t even busy in the restaurant. Cantina Gia is always one of my favourites and where I bring guests but this experience was a bit of a shame.

I much prefer to write positive notes. Sadly, my first time back to this restaurant in 2 years was much the same as my last 2 visits. Great space, lovely ambiance - however, the food is so salty that it is rendered almost inedible. All four of us in the party felt the same way, from appetizers to mains. In fact, one member of our party texted me after to say that he had barely made it home without an "accident" as his body immediately wanted to flush out the sodium. When they first opened the food was excellent. I have now had three meals in a row, spread out since, that were not up to par.

My third time coming to this restaurant - the food is always mid but I come for the ambiance. Not sure if I will come again though. DRINKS: The Orange Wine on tap that I ordered was corked and the server did not understand that the wine was aerated too much that the taste had gone sour and hard to drink. The Espresso Martini I ordered instead of wine was watered down, likely because of the small ice cubes used which melted quickly into the drink. FOOD: The two lunch sandwiches ordered was good and the salad had a light dressing which paired well with the sandwich. SERVICE: Despite being lunch time and the restaurant being half full, service was slow. It took me 10 mins to have my empty water cup refilled and awhile for my bill and the machine to come, upon request. The Aesop soap in the bathroom was either not Aesop or mixed with water.

Everything was great, but my Carbonara only had 2 very small pieces of pancetta in the whole dish. Otherwise it was all a lovely meal.

If you’re looking for a quiet evening out, this is not the place for you. The noise level was beyond normal. As far as the food goes, we ordered the calamari as an appetizer. It was a generous portion, lightly battered, but a bit on the salty side. The aioli was nice. The main course was carbonara. It is a shorter version of rigatoni as opposed to the traditional spaghetti. It was cooked al dente, which gave it a nice firm texture. The sauce was authentic with eggs, guanciale, parmesan, but over-the-top with the black pepper (some whole peppercorns were in the dish). It made the dish rather unpleasant. The tiramisu was just ok. Not much taste of the marscapone, as the coco powder overpowered the entire dessert. Overall, this restaurant was disappointing. We had been to the owner’s other restaurant North and Navy on a few occasions and were quite satisfied, so we wanted to try this one.

I started doing take out at CG during Covid and am always impressed by the consistently great food and service. Fun, casual atmosphere.

We had a really nice Tuesday dinner at Cantina Gia. I got the Gia Cini Tini to start which had peperoncino brine (so good!). We split a focaccia and added burrata (it came with oil and balsamic as well). We also split a Caesar and a pasta dish which was more than enough for 2 of us. Everything was delicious and the service was great.
