Traditional meets modern in this new age Caribbean cuisine restaurant brought you by Chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph of E&R Hospitality Group.

Named after the Canje pheasant, national bird of Guyana, Canje pulls inspiration not just from mainland Guyana, but from Jamaica to Puerto Rico, and all the islands in between. Our menu explores the cooking techniques, ingredients, and many expressions of vibrant food across the region.

Tucked away on the east side of Austin, this lively environment brings a unique cocktail program boasting both spirit forward and fruit driven cocktails and a small selection of natural wines alongside our inventive food menu.

D'après les éditeur·rices d'OpenTable : The music is loud, the jerk chicken is hot, and the cocktails are colorful at Canje, the East Austin hotspot from chef and Guyanese native Tavel Bristol-Joseph. In a lively space decked with palm fronds and tropical wallpaper, dig into Caribbean-inspired dishes like Guyanese-style roti and West Indian curry that earned Bristol-Joseph his first James Beard nod.

Ring in the New Year at Canje with a six-course menu that celebrates prosperity, unity, and the resilient spirit of Caribbean heritage; a journey through flavors and stories rooted in ancestral wisdom, cultural fusion, and the celebration of a hopeful future. Please note: This menu is $125 per person. Our standard a la carte menu will not be available. All checks will include a gratuity of 20%. If you need to modify or cancel your reservation, please let us know as soon as possible. Less than 24 hour notice may result in a $50 cancellation fee per person. Please let us know at the time of booking if you have any dietary restrictions by adding them to the “special request’” area. Call us at 512-706-9119 with any questions!

We loved every dish we ordered! The service here was also top notch. If you order the jerk chicken, definitely try it with the red sauce served with it. And the pepper rice is the most flavorful rice I've ever had.

We had a LOVELY dinner. The entire team were so kind and thoughtful. Loved our server, Conner! Food blew us away. No notes. Can’t wait to return.

Canje never disappoints. Get the pepperpot, the griot, and the smoked avo escabeche. You must have the roti to soak up all of the juices. Finish off with the black cake (ask how that’s made) and the tres leches.

Recently visited Canje for dinner with my family, hoping to experience authentic flavors, especially given all the hype and its reputation as one of Austin’s best dining spots. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations. First off, the prices are unreasonably high for what’s offered. While I understand paying for quality and creativity, the lack of basic pairings with certain dishes was baffling. Serving pepper pot or curry without bread to complement them is both surprising and disappointing. These are staple accompaniments that elevate the meal and make it feel complete. The food was ok, just ok… the prawns were particularly bad as they were spoiled, fritters were stodgy and pork shoulder dry. While the ambiance and presentation may be trendy, the noise in this restaurant was deafening, couldn’t hear the person talking across the table. It’s hard to justify the cost when the fundamentals of the cuisine seem overlooked. For a place that prides itself on authenticity, this felt like a missed opportunity.

I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant. The ambiance was amazing from the decor, to the lighting, to the music. Everything I ate was fresh and seasoned to perfect.

My 4th visit to Canje! Continues to elevate the experience each time. Can't wait for the 5th! The food, the service, the ambience--truly one of my favorite places here in the ATX.
