Traditional meets modern in this new age Caribbean cuisine restaurant brought you by Chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph of E&R Hospitality Group.

Named after the Canje pheasant, national bird of Guyana, Canje pulls inspiration not just from mainland Guyana, but from Jamaica to Puerto Rico, and all the islands in between. Our menu explores the cooking techniques, ingredients, and many expressions of vibrant food across the region.

Tucked away on the east side of Austin, this lively environment brings a unique cocktail program boasting both spirit forward and fruit driven cocktails and a small selection of natural wines alongside our inventive food menu.

D'après les éditeur·rices d'OpenTable : The music is loud, the jerk chicken is hot, and the cocktails are colorful at Canje, the East Austin hotspot from chef and Guyanese native Tavel Bristol-Joseph. In a lively space decked with palm fronds and tropical wallpaper, dig into Caribbean-inspired dishes like Guyanese-style roti and West Indian curry that earned Bristol-Joseph his first James Beard nod.

Ring in the New Year at Canje with a six-course menu that celebrates prosperity, unity, and the resilient spirit of Caribbean heritage; a journey through flavors and stories rooted in ancestral wisdom, cultural fusion, and the celebration of a hopeful future. Please note: This menu is $130 per person. Our standard a la carte menu will not be available. All checks will include a gratuity of 20%. If you need to modify or cancel your reservation, please let us know as soon as possible. Less than 24 hour notice may result in a $50 cancellation fee per person. Please let us know at the time of booking if you have any dietary restrictions by adding them to the “special request’” area. Call us at 512-706-9119 with any questions!

This was the best meal I’ve had in months. Thanks to everyone at Canje who made our 2 year anniversary so special and delicious and a major thanks to Bambi, our waitress, who was amazing. I can’t wait to go back.

The noise level at a 5:15 pm reservation was so loud we could not talk and enjoy the delicious food from a well curated menu. Furthermore I was seated at the front table and all of the staff were behind my back constantly getting items out of drawers. This fur to degraded the dining experience. Beware

From coat check to service and all the in between, gracious staff, Guyanese cuisine is represented extremely well. Drinks were great compliments to the menu items! Fresh flavors, spice, colors, textures; added up to ask excellent evening. We’ll be back soon.

Great food and service. We had the ceviche, Jamaican buns, wild boar, jerk chicken, and yrs leche cake. All were great. The ceviche and jerk chicken were my favorites. Service was outstanding - very helpful. Wish this were local to us - we would go again and again.

Amazing food a d service. Everything we had was delicious. Stand outs were the wild boar hotpot, plantain chips, and pineapple.
