Traditional meets modern in this new age Caribbean cuisine restaurant brought you by Chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph of E&R Hospitality Group.

Named after the Canje pheasant, national bird of Guyana, Canje pulls inspiration not just from mainland Guyana, but from Jamaica to Puerto Rico, and all the islands in between. Our menu explores the cooking techniques, ingredients, and many expressions of vibrant food across the region.

Tucked away on the east side of Austin, this lively environment brings a unique cocktail program boasting both spirit forward and fruit driven cocktails and a small selection of natural wines alongside our inventive food menu.

D'après les éditeur·rices d'OpenTable : The music is loud, the jerk chicken is hot, and the cocktails are colorful at Canje, the East Austin hotspot from chef and Guyanese native Tavel Bristol-Joseph. In a lively space decked with palm fronds and tropical wallpaper, dig into Caribbean-inspired dishes like Guyanese-style roti and West Indian curry that earned Bristol-Joseph his first James Beard nod.

Love canje but it’s always way too loud there. The food is always amazing, but it creates poor service because we can’t hear our server, and harder to enjoy catching up with friends.

Very delicious food and ambiance was energetic. Servers and food runners were very enthusiastic describing each menu item. You could tell they loved the food as well. I dined with 4 other chefs and we all enjoyed the creativity and quality of ingredients. We appreciate a nice dinner that we didn’t have to cook ourselves! Great job all around!

Really enjoyed the food and menu options! Staff seemed rushed and space was tightly packed with people and loud music. With food of this caliber I would love to see them move into a bigger space!

Canje is an amazing place. The food is extraordinary, the staff are wonderful and we had a memorable dinner. It is absolutely one of the best restaurants that we have been to. We highly recommend it!

My brother and I went to Canje while he was visiting from out of town. We had a reservation and arrived on time, but were told our table wasn’t ready, so we ended up waiting an additional 15 minutes to be seated. Unfortunately, no one on staff offered an apology for the delay. Once we were finally seated, the experience only became more disappointing. Our server was very unfriendly and seemed distant, which set a negative tone right from the start. Despite how great the food was, the service and lack of acknowledgment for the delays really took away from the overall experience. It’s a shame that such good food was overshadowed by poor service and an uncomfortable atmosphere.

Freaking Ahhhhhhhmazing!!! Every. Single. Dish. Was pure perfection. And we tried them all! Our server June was simply the best. And the rest of the Canje team were fantastic! Must haves: the plantain chips, pink pineapple, ceviche, oxtail beef patties, jerk chicken, wild boar pepper pot, and the ROTI! Order lots and lots of ROTI!! The drinks were delicious - the lime light and frozen pina were transporting! The plantain rice krispy treat was special and like nothing you’ve had before. Best restaurant in Austin for sure!!!!!

We choose Canje to celebrate our son’s birthday & had a wonderful experience. The food was outstanding & wait staff went out of their way to make his birthday celebration a special occasion. I highly recommend this restaurant!

The food was amazing. We went for my birthday and got a variety of apps, mains and desserts. This place is great if you enjoy sharing food with your table and trying different flavor combinations. My favorites were the Beef Curry, Ceviche, Rum Punch Sorbet and Tres Leches cake. We will definitely be back. The staff is also so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu!
