We were seated 45 minutes after our reservation time and the servers seem stretched thin. Great food just takes over an hour to order and actually get it.

Unfortunately, our visit was affected by bad weather such that we were not able to enjoy the outside “rooftop” area. The menu is solid. Cocktail menu is good. Staff was excellent. Overall, it was a pleasant (pretty typical) experience.

We had reservations and wound up getting seated at a high top in the hallway away from the bar in an alcove by ourselves. We moved after we saw there were table available near the bar with a better view of the bay. We ordered several small plates including the queso cheese dip. The dip came out lukewarm the cheese had a film on top. The chicken tacos came next and were cold. We had to send them back. We had to chase down our server who never offered my wife or me a second drink. Joel the manager came over to apologize and said it was the new point of sale software. Software is one thing, but bad service cold food and no initiative is something staff can handle. We may give Joel a chance, he was very polite. But aren't there other good restaurants in downtown?

The food was delicious but the service was very disappointing. Not sure if they were short staffed but it took a very long time for drinks to come and to be serviced by the waiter.

My table was uneven so all the condensation formed due to it being very hot outside, rolled into my lap. The addition of fans or misters would be nice considering the outside and we’re in Florida, it was very hot. I have the boozy brunch I think for the price of the drinks as well as the price of the empanadas they could have been bigger otherwise everything else was pretty good and the actual portion size was nice.

We’ve had several very good experiences at Cane and Barrel and have given them very good reviews. Not today. 10:30am reservation…line at the door with people inside still setting up. Eggs Benedict…over cooked. Prosciutto was like leather. Instead of an English Muffin it was on overcooked toast. Biscuits and Gravy…2 of them on the plate…one warm…one cold. Service was ok.

Cane & Barrel is a classic case of 'some good, some not so good.' So, with that in mind: What works: 1. Terrific outdoor space. Amazing views. Perfect for date nite or would be amazing for a large group or private function. 2. Terrific music--and at an agreeable volume! 3. Tasty cocktails--and very non-traditional, but in a good way. 4. The shrimp ceviche. Hands-down the best thing we ate. (though a bit pricey, but overlookable...) 5. Prices for the most part are pretty fair. BUT....what doesn't work. And to C&B, these are offered as constructive comments more than criticisms--as all are easily 'fixable.' 1. The insight lighting in the hostess and bar area--for 830 on a Saturday--was WAAY too bright and harsh! What happened to mood lighting--especially with that fantastic outdoor view? 2. The artichoke empanadas were pretty tasty, but WAY oversalted on the outside. Ditch the salty outside coating altogether! (Or a note to others: ask for them without salt). 3. The annoying overhead spotlights on the north end of the patio that flickered on and off the entire time we sat. I made a joke to the waiter about it, and his reply: 'Yeah, we've been told there's an electrical short.' So...just TURN THEM OFF ALTOGETHER! 4. The lights and wires falling out of the bottom of the fire pits. Seems sort of tatty and lowers the experience. 5. The crab cake. Tasts sauce, but the crab itself was very fishy (e.g. canned crab) and the 'cilantro slaw' (which drove our decision to order) had zero cilantro at all. So a disappointment. 6. Service was a bit slow and inattentive. And when we had finished eating and were ready for the check, the waiter was nowhere to be found and we had to get up and ask the hostess to find him. It's not that C&B is bad, per se. It's pretty solid and the drinks and terrace are amazing. It's just that they need to focus on details and fix these little things to make it great!

Do no go for the food. They cannot even make a simple shrimp ceviche. The shrimp ceviche was tasteless.
