Christopher Hirsheimer and Melissa Hamilton—the women behind Canal House Station—are cooks, writers, and artists. In 2007 they founded Canal House, which includes a publishing venture and a culinary, photography, and design studio. Their cookbook "Canal House Cooks Every Day" received a James Beard Award in 2012.

In 2019, Christopher and Melissa opened Canal House Station, a hidden gem tucked into an elegantly restored 1870s train station on the banks of the Delaware River in Milford, NJ. Their idiosyncratic, modern American cuisine is inspired by local ingredients that are ripe and in season in Hunterdon and Bucks County. They are two women, cooking together, and sharing their love of gathering people around the table to eat good food. They have been nominated twice for a James Beard Foundation “Best Chef: Mid Atlantic” award.

Canal House Station offers "Sunday Dinner" every Sunday. It is available for Private & Corporate Events, and Celebratory Gatherings throughout the year.

We always have a wonderful time at the Canal House Station. #1 the food is always superb and the portions are plentiful #2 the decor is comfortable and inviting, inside and out. I love being in the old station and the gardens are lovely. (Boy am I jealous of those fig trees) #3 this time we sat in the kitchen and it was fun to watch everyone at work #4 all the wait staff are lovely, kind, an completely at your service! #4 the Friday local pasta night (our second one) was so much fun, meeting new people and having entertaining conversations. We will always go back!!!!

We went for the Friday night family style pasta night and besides enjoying the meal had a great time chatting with our table mates and had a wonderful experience. The service was attentive, meal was great and it's a BYOB so you can splurge a bit on the vino to compliment the meal. Fun time!

We've eaten at Canal House many times over the years but this was our first time seated outdoors in the "Garden." The entire experience was perfect. The garden is a little bit of Provence growing in Milford, NJ, complete with shady and flowering trellised vines, herbs, and various other culinary plants. The staff were attentive and extremely pleasant but never overbearing. The food: amazing. Every bite.

The meal we had this past Sunday was perfect! Each dish was distinctive and flavorful. The full flavor of the Lovely Leaves, avocado and shrimp, flawless Duck Confit was enhanced but never overshadowed by the lovely sauces and dressings. Canal House decor is so elegant and inviting; great art. BRAVA to an outstanding team. WE WILL BE BACK!
