Can Can is a French brasserie and bakery in Cary Court Shopping Center. With seating for over 140 in the main dining room, an Art Nouveau inspired private dining room that seats up to 60 guests or over 100 for cocktails, and a full-service bakery and pastry kitchen supplying all of its breads, pastries, and desserts, the restaurant’s versatility should provide the area an array of options and events.

Can Can provides nonstop service morning, noon, and night and looks to give the local neighborhood, businesses, and Richmond visitors, a home away from home, an office away from the office, a place of refuge, or a stage for celebrating with friends.

Big yummy croque madame and Monsieur and a lot might be absent from the menu if you arrive. Also they’re obsessed with telling you the kitchen might close.

Super nice server, a long wait for food. Not a restaurant for quick snappy service, if you not in a hurry and don't waiting for over 30 minutes. Basic menu with French sounding names, pricey for the food produced. Presentation was OK, it lacked any flair. Not much attention to detail, no teaspoon to stir the coffee and a huge serving spoon for a dessert. Ambiance, decor and cleanness were very much on point which negated the other short comings. The bar area looked lively and could be fun as long as you weren't ordering food.

Horrible experience with the hostess. From the moment we arrived she started telling us all the things that were wrong. We were 10 minutes late for our reservation (we were waiting in line to check in after a long line for 5 of those minutes), they couldn’t accommodate a high chair, and told us we had to be out by 7 for another reservation and to basically make it snappy. We chose an available reservation time so it wasn’t as if they were squeezing us in unreasonably. Our waitress was very sweet but for a place that is counting the minutes of your arrival/exit time, the wait between ordering and receiving food and drinks was long.

Very disappointed. We are regular customers and tend to eat the same things. Today they changed the menu and now you don’t get a side when ordering a sandwich. And the price is the same. Adding the side as extra is equivalent to a 60% increase. Also the croque madame was not as good or generous as before.

Raw bar is consistently closed on Friday nights with no warning to reservations. Our friend’s drink had something floating in it. No appetizer plates were given for a party of 4, after about 3-5 minutes of waiting we all ate off the serving platters. Sides to entrees (salad and fries) were served about 20 minutes after receiving our entrees. Our server was extremely busy and very nice. I’ve been going here for about 15 years and the last 3 times I have been have been different from my normal positive experiences. Food is always good.

Over the years, I have always enjoyed CanCan. Tonight the food disappointed. I will be back for Brunch, but dinner is doubtful. Our server did well and the ambiance and energy level in the restuaurant made us feel like we had made the right choice. That changed when the food arrived. I chose the seared scallops served on roasted corn. The scallops were not cooked through and made them not hot enough. The corn portion might have been two ounces of corn making the plate presentation substandard. Fortunately, my wife ordered Frites with her mussels. That point of view changed when she shared them with me. Limp and soggy are the adjectives that come to mind. Dessert was slightly above average, but at that point the meal was not memorable. These are very easy to fix things .....searing scallops on both sides and hot, crispy fries. I hope other diners do not experience what we did.

Can Can has always been one of my favorites, but tonight nothing on the raw bar was available due to staff shortages. This definitely limited the menu and the appeal for the price. Our waitress was doing her best But everything took way too long to arrive. The lighting was also way too bright, very McDonald’s. Sad to see a Richmond favorite going downhill.

The service was fantastic - very attentive and personable. Disappointed that all raw bar and mussels were unavailable. Understand that things happen but that’s a big draw for my family. Hangar steak was prepared very well and cheeses were delicious. Great wine selection!
