Wonderful new restaurant with friendly attentive staff and amazing food. Tuna with avocado for starter was full of flavor and deliciously fresh fish, then market vegetables with aioli creative and surprising, Japanese spaghetti rich and complex. But then the most tender and crisp succulent chicken I have ever had! Can’t wait to go back!!!!

Wonderful dining experience provided by the Tsubaki and Ototo group! Fun menu and the service was excellent.

WOW WOW WOW. I had high expectations of Camelia, considering that it's from the amazing team behind Tsubaki & Ototo, 2 of our favorites in LA. That being said, it exceeded all expectations on every level and we were blown away. It's a beautiful space with understated but lovely details. The design is clean and welcoming, the plates and stemware really thoughtfully chosen, the menu is incredible and you just want to order everything, and the service is exactly what every restaurant should be: servers are friendly, approachable, knowledgeable, and available but they don't hover and they know when to come check on you. Now let's talk about the food. This IS why we go to restaurants, mostly, right? :) It's a Japanese Bistrot which means the menu items are very French inspired, with Japanese ingredients and techniques woven throughout the offerings. Loved the creativity of the menu and the cocktails were exceptional, as well as sake and wine. There were 4 of us so we managed to order a lot of the items on the menu. The oysters were divine. The black sesame parker rolls with French butter and ikura (salmon roe) was beyond. The uni otoro toast bites were melt-in-your-mouth scrumptious. The tuna avocado bites were absolutely delicious. Spot prawn sashimi was so fresh and just perfectly prepared. Market lettuce salad was so original and bright, momotaro tomato dish was excellent. They have an abalone & mussel pot pie which looks incredible but sadly we didn't order it. Next time we will. I had the striped bass which was served with a French succotash and pickled ramps, with ikura and yuzu kosho sauce. I couldn't even speak while eating it, that's how insane it was. 2 of us ordered the Bouillabaisse with prawns, scallops, and mussels and it was divine. One of us ordered the burger and I didn't try it but he loved it and we all devoured his amazing french fries with curry ketchup. Desserts were amazing. Perfection has been achieved. Cannot wait to go back!

Camelia, a new French/Japanese restaurant - the latest addition to Tsubaki and Ototo from my favorite team of Courtney Kaplan and Charles Namba, is a masterpiece! AESTHETIC: Featuring exposed brick, dark wood and some rattan accents, the ambiance is warm and elegant. DRINKS: While the sake and wine list is one you would expect from someone with Courtney's extensive knowledge of both, the cocktail menu is AMAZING. SERVICE: anyone familiar with Tsubaki and Ototo, would finds the same friendly and competent service with waiters happy to share their knowledge with guests. FOOD: The food, more French than Japanese, is rather unique for Los Angeles in its bold approach and willingness to incorporate elements of Japanese cuisine into French dishes. I am not a food critic and will leave specific descriptions of the individual dishes to professionals; suffice it to say that the fusion works and I cannot wait to come back!
