Located in the Sorrento Valley, California English is the newest culinary creation from celebrity chef, Richard Blais. Blais is creating an all-day menu for California English that’ll interpret classic British dishes through the lens of Southern California ingredients.
The idea is a fusion of sorts: the laid-back California lifestyle that makes San Diego so unique, mixed with a cozy pub convivial atmosphere where you can meet friends (or mates) for a pint after work, set up a client lunch with fresh oysters on the menu or have a cozy family dinner over a Sunday roast. Everything on the menu is made from scratch with locally sourced ingredients that make for fresh and flavorful dishes.
The effortless vibe of casual yet stylish makes for the perfect place to celebrate the joy of the unexpected coming together to make the perfect culinary match.

Drinks were amazing- I had a London Fog and Coffee Martini, both were really good. Food was great and service was exceptional! Definitely going Bach for High Tea.

The food was overcooked and burned making the scones way too chewy and the marmalade was extremely bitter- inedible. Service was OK. It took a long time In between to get additional items. Not a good selection of teas and the sweets were also not a good selection. We love High Tea service and we looked forward to your place and although the ambiance was nice, the rest was a letdown.

We went for brunch and ordered the traditional Benedict, the pancakes, a side sausage, the scones and gravy, the kids steak and fries and to drink the Bloody Mary with the scotch egg and the breakfast margarita. All of the food was pretty good. The service was a bit lacking as they were slow to take our order and once the food came out we were almost done with everything but had to remind them that the pancakes had not yet done out. To the managers credit they did finally bring out the pancakes and comped them on the bill. I am not sure if it was just a Saturday morning as to why the service was lacking but I would give it a try again if I am in the area.

Had afternoon tea service, felt like they were rushing us through the service. Asked if we wanted to order anything else 10 min into meal, they surprised us with birthday brownie with ice cream which was a nice touch (I mentioned we were celebrating bday in my reservation), but that was brought out maybe 30 min into meal while we were still eating the main. Then brought us check unprompted at about 50 min into reservation. I’m not sure why they were trying to rush us out the door because there were plenty of open tables but that was the vibe we got

Afternoon tea is an excellent value and the dining room and patio are beautiful. The food and tea are delicious and on par with, if not better than, the much pricier options in San Diego. Very close to 5 stars but the scones were a bit dry, the sandwiches were tiny, and they don’t provide tea lights to keep the teapots warm. None of those would prevent me from going back and recommending this delightful place.

Lovely outside table, our service was good. The finger sandwiches were ok, nothing great. Scones and pastries were very tasty. We would have liked some berries on the side, but all in all an enjoyable afternoon. The music needs to change, it didn’t go with the ambience.

Food excellent. Our server Gus was outstanding. Very attentive, professional and knowledgeable about the menu. Our outdoor seating was lovely, overlooking a beautiful grassy area. Marco, the new manager, was very welcoming and accommodating. Great experience.
