Located in downtown Columbia, SC, inside the historic 1902 Union Station, California Dreaming welcomes guests with its vibrant and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant's floor-to-ceiling windows offer a picturesque view of the rail tracks, stretching from the inactive platform to the main terminal. Paired with our hearty, made-from-scratch menu, it's no wonder California Dreaming has been a beloved local institution since 1984. Open for lunch and dinner daily, including online ordering with curbside pickup.

Celebrating 40 years, California Dreaming has been a valued part of the Columbia community. Union Station, its historic home, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

**We provide Advance Priority Seating to reduce wait times and expedite the seating process when your entire party arrives. To ensure the best experience for all guests, we seat groups of up to 8. While larger groups are seated separately, this arrangement is flexible during quieter hours.

Our lunch was rushed and felt like we were on a timer. Our server wasn’t sure if the Tea we ordered was sweet or not so - he said.. “I added extra sugar just in case it wasn’t sweetened; may need to stir it up.” Yes it was too sweet! Then brought out my She Crab Soup for a starter- but quickly took it from me while there was still 1/2 of the soup in the bowl! Please ask next time. Placed our salads in front of us with the house dressings on the side for us to mix and apply. Then with the heat from the hot bacon our salads were soggy and wilted. We did not ask for them on the sides. Then in 10 minutes he comes by with the electronic card reader and tells my husband to “go ahead and get out his card to run the bill.” We have been in this Resturant since we were in college ourselves at USC- 1990 - never have we seen it so rushed, loud, casual, yet pricey. Disappointed in the food, service, and atmosphere. We were in town for a CPA conference as we do quite often.. not sure if we will be back or encourage others to do the same. Too many other great new places to try at the Vista.

The atmosphere and service was excellent! The meal ordered was not okay. I ordered the Trout meal. The meat was almost paper thin. Based on the price, I would never order that dish again.

Our reservation was initially for 4. I had to change it to 6 and cancelled the 4 but the young hostess tried to seat us at a fourtop. We said we were 6 and she returned us to the lobby arguing about the number. When we got back to the desk she said OH it does say 6 but it did say four. She said they would have to seat other large parties and I said that was unacceptable. She said why it is unacceptable and I explained - becasue there was an empty table next to the one she was planning to seat us at for 6. She said she could now seat us there. We waited another 5-8 minutes and then she said she could seat us again. She took us right back to the table she had just said she could not seat us at. I can always use extra steps but I preferred to sit and have lunch with my friends. The service was great at the table and the food was too. The young hostess just needs to learn some customer service skills. If anyone is checking she was the shorter of the two young female hostesses that afternoon.

My wife and I had an excellent time celebrating her birthday. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding.

Over expensive for the items it offered. Years ago it was still expensive but the food was worth the price. This time it wasn't. We will find another restaurant to celebrate my birthday next year.

The restaurant is just beautiful being an old railroad station. We were greeted and seated right away. Our server, Alan, was very kind and attentive and was patient since it took us awhile to figure out what we wanted. The drinks and food were all great, everyone was happy with their meal. We loved that they have a huge parking lot since they are pretty much in the middle of the USC campus. We don't live close but if we make it back to Columbia, we will definitely go again.

My lunch companion was greeted very nicely and was sat immediately. I sat in and ate with my lunch companion and then ordered 3 meals to go. You can tell the difference between the food you eat in the restaurant which is of good quality and the food you take to go which was of poor quality. The pasta was not seasoned at all, and the wings seemed to be old. Eating in the restaurant and ordering food to go is set at the same price meals so I'd expect to have my to go meals be of good quality.
